just looking over some draft history this morning and was surprised to see that during Gettleman's time with the Giants (98-12) the Giants have only selected 2 Offensive Lineman with their first two picks (T Petitgout 1999, G Chris Snee 2004) side note: LT Will Beatty was selected in the second round but with the Giants 3rd pick.

RT David Diehl (fifth round pick)
RG Chris Snee (second round pick)
    C David Bass (UFA signing)
    LG Kevin Boothe (waiver claim)
LT Will Beatty (second round pick)

1st two picks over this span are broken down as follows:

    RB - 3
    QB - 1
    LB - 1
    DE - 4
    DT - 4
    DB - 8
    TE - 1
    WR - 6
    OL - 2

    Ron Dayne!

That is a surprising list. Lots of WR's somewhat surprising.

Gettleman wasn't the guy pulling the trigger. He could draft a TE in the 2nd for all we know.

Does this mean they were bad at picking WR's and DB's? Got a list of players?

    Gettleman wasn't drafting those guys.

He did however, have a lot to do with bringing in key free agents that helped them go to the Superbowl, despite some shitty drafting, such as Kareem McKenzie, Plaxico Burress, ANtonio Pierce, Keith Bullock, our own Mike Barrow back when they went to the Superbowl with Kerry Collins - (although perhaps he wasn't director of player personnel back then???), so he's done some good.

He also helped them weather the storm when they lost a ton of their players in FA (O' Hara, the fake Steve Smith, Keith Bullock, ect.) and I think they won the fucking Superbowl that year, though I'm too damn lazy to check.

From Peter King: Darrelle Revis trade from New York Jets to Tampa Bay Buccaneers almost didn't happen - NFL - Peter King - SI.com

    7. I think new Carolina GM Dave Gettleman had an interesting comment about the state of his team last week. "Maybe you guys think I'm Pollyanna, but I don't see any major holes here,'' he said. Yes, Dave. We think you're Pollyanna. Your team has won two, six and seven games over the last three years, and hasn't won a playoff game in the last seven seasons. You might want to develop a wide receiver to take pressure off Steve Smith (and be his heir), and you might improve your corners so you don't allow 67 percent completions in a pass-happy division -- especially considering one of your major rivals will acquire Darrelle Revis this week.

    8. I think -- and I may be wrong on this -- that a 15-33 team in this decade just might have a major hole or two.

When Peter King cucks you, that's bad.
