"I inherited a team that was 31st in the league in defense and made them better," Ryan told ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon from his vacation spot in the Turks and Caicos Islands. "I [expletive] made them a hell of a lot better. I'll be out of work for like five minutes. I think I did a good job and I think our staff did a good job on defense trying to compete with what we had at the end of the year. But the best job we did was when we were able to coach our starters."

What a conceited bastard. I hope this tub of shit's belly gets a second-degree sunburn on the Caicos Islands. I also hope he's forced to take a job at O'Reilly Auto Parts by springtime.

I'm annoyed by them trying to use the injury excuse when Dallas lost a lot fewer defensive starters than most teams. He does have a point about the Cowboys being terrible in 2010, but going from 31st to ultimately 24th isn't stunning improvement, especially considering that some of that had to come from upgrading personnel (Carr, Claiborne, etc). Moreover, 24th is Dallas' third worst defensive finish in the last twenty-plus years (31st in 2010, 27th in 2004).

Has he ever had a good defense? I know he was in Cleveland when Clausen nearly pulled off a miracle drive to win (thanks again Kasay). They were always pretty shitty in Oakland.

I want to like that crazy bastard. The results aren't often there, though. 3rd in yards, 5th in y/a in 2006, his one good year. Never great in points, but Ds that play man this much aren't great at that.

Should be noted that 2 years in Oakland were spent having Tyler Brayton play OLB with Sapp as a 5 tech.

No. They let Pettine walk because they were scared that Thurman (DBs coach) would get nabbed by someone else, so they went ahead and elevated him to DC.
