well nobody ever bumped this thread so not sure if anybody else is still watching.

Season two has been pretty good - last night's episode about the Battle of the Blackwater was pretty sick. Great battle scenes, the special effects for the wild fire explosion was great. You could tell Martin himself wrote that episode. Hope the season finale next week is as good.

Tyrion cutting the leg off that guy was funny.

Really liked the last episode, geeked out at the ending. Looking forward to next season.

Surprised no one has posted here in a long time. This past Sunday's episode was outstanding, The Rains of Castamere, a great title for the episode with the Red Wedding in it.

The reaction is really interesting from people that haven't read the books and even from some that have. All of the silliness about cancelling their HBO subscriptions and what not. I really enjoyed the differences in the episode from the book. It gave it an even harder, more brutal edge.

The show is catching up to Martin quickly, they have been going through about a book a season and there are only two published books left at this point. I have been saying that the show is going to have to finish the story and Martin, if he is still alive, will finish up by writing the adaptation of the show. Unless, GoT does what HBO and The Sopranos did by taking long chunks of time off between seasons. The Sopranos took a year and a half off and then almost two years off between a couple of seasons.

He started writing The Winds of Winter in 2012 so best case scenario would be 2015 for the release of book six in the series and then 2018 for the seventh. 2017 would be the natural time frame for the TV series to air using the seventh book for its source material. Thus, I believe that at sometime there is going to have to be a year and a half to two year break between seasons just so Martin can finish.

i haven't read the books, but as i understand it, season 3 and 4 will span a single book in the series. if they need to slow down the pace, i'm guessing they could easily turn each book into 2 seasons.

The next two books in the series were actually kind of broken in half with one set of characters in one book and another set in the other without much overlap. I am sure that they will combine the two books over the next two seasons and probably even a third. A Feast for Crows is in the same realm size wise as the first two books. A Dance with Dragons on the other hand is in the ballpark with A Storm of Swords. The last two books have been the least liked and quite frankly have done very little to move the story along. His original plan was to have a 5 year character hiatus between A Storm of Swords and the book that followed so the main characters could grow up a bit. Then he changed his mind and all that, and then the 5 year hiatus ended up being how long it took to release A Feast for Crows. After Feast it took 6 years to release A Dance with Dragons. So, both of those books together are really one ginormous book, split in half (sort of), that took him about 10 years to write. The kicker for a lot of people seems to be that there isn't much that happens and he goes off in some weird, time consuming directions. He spends a lot of time with new POV characters that I don't give a damn about and not enough with the ones I do.
Bottom line, I believe that the pace he writes at and how long it takes him to move the story along, it is going to take him more than two more books to wrap things up.
