If any other team drafted him yeah, he'd be a MLB.

But our situation is a bit unique.

its kinda funny, Luke started off as a MLB at BC thanks to an achilles injury. But he was moved to WLB after Herzlich was diagnosed with Cancer.

He only proceeded to lead the team in tackles as a freshman, before moving back inside his soph year.

I have no doubt, with his work ethic and ability he could play either spots and excell.

Playing outside linebacker in college is not the same as playing outside linebacker in the NFL. Again, as a pro, Kuechly is a middle linebacker.

if we did draft the BC kid it would be extraordinarily bad news in that they would have to have a negative prognosis on Beason. You don't draft a backup MLB at #9.

Well, Beason could theoretically play WLB and it might even be easier on his Achilles, but I agree that they don't make that move if they don't have serious doubts about his future with the team.

I would be on board with him if Beasons injury is typical
MLB is as close to the QB of the defense as it gets. You need talent and depth there
Could do worse than getting the best tackler in college

Agree with all this. If you have doubts about Beason, and you have a guy that set the record for tackles in only 3 seasons of football, I think you gotta pull that trigger.

However if you are CERTAIN Beason will make a full recovery, then you simply can't make that move with so many other needs.
