I am also curious. It seems to me that Gabbert, Locker, and Ponder are reasons Tannehill will not be drafted that early. Teams in the top 10 that need QB could change dramatically after free agency. If Manning goes to DC and Flynn to South Beach, who is left? Cleveland would then land RGIII. Jacksonville is not likely to grab "Gabbert II."

Even if no free agents are in play, Cleveland and Miami have decent QBs now, and drafting Tannehill would not necessarily be an immediate upgrade. If he is no immediate upgrade, why reach now?

Seattle at #12 is his best hope of being drafted in the top half of the first round.

Tannehill will impress at the combine, however. His processing is his problem, from what I have read.

 

Which Cleveland QB is decent?

 

I'd take that bet. I think there's a better chance of that than Ponder going at number 12.

 

What does anyone think of LaMichael James from Oregon? Im a big ducks fan here on the west coast and He might be there in the 2nd round? It would be nice to have him as a PR/KR and the \"scat back\" they talked about. and he\'s fast and shit.

 

A 2nd rounder on a 3rd RB is about as big a luxury pick as I can think of.

 

Too high. Would be good if he's still there in the 4th, but I doubt that.

 

Rivera has said he'd like to add that quick "scat back" guy to the offense. James kinda fits that mold as does Chris Rainey although is he doesn't really have a position.

Goodson has more speed than our starting guys but is in the dog house and might not be back but he adds a little different dimension to the offense when he is in.

Locker was substantially more talented than Tannehill, and Gabbert had a lot of experience. Someone could reach on Tannehill, but it absolutely will not be in the top 10.

I don't get the Rivers comparison at all, honestly. He is very athletic, although not in Locker's league. Tannehill is inexperienced and it shows on the field, as he forces a lot of balls into coverage and doesn't evidence any ability to read defenses, much less look off safeties. He has adequate accuracy and arm strength, so pairing that with his athleticism and it's easy to understand why teams would be interested, but he's just not nearly a good enough passer or runner to make anyone think about him in the top 10 and probably not the top 20 either. I personally wouldn't grade him as a first rounder at all.

 

Ponder was a very experienced, pro-ready QB, albeit one with limited upside. Tannehill is a major project who isn't even close to being ready for the NFL.
