New laptop battery won't charge...

lol... sadly enough yeah. If you can get it to boot to a USB floppy you can run the bios exe from there.

I think your only other option is a new battery. Do you know anyone else that has the same laptop? See if you can borrow their battery long enough to update.

 

I was thinking of the larger floppies that one could bend. I think you are talking about the more sturdy smaller floppy disks, right?

Don't know anyone with the exact same laptop but I imagine someone around here has a Dell. I'm guessing that battery maybe compatible. Yeah, easiest thing to do is just buy a new damn battery from Dell. BTW, thanks for all the suggestions.

 

Well, I went in to Device Manager and deleted "Microsoft ACPI - Compliant Control Method Battery" and the battery started to charge. I think there's also a connection issue where the AC plug actually plugs into the laptop. It's working now so I'll take it.

 

Honestly, the best option is to buy a new battery from Dell. No aftermarket crap.

You'll probably see it start to die again. If the battery isn't charging, 99% of the time it means the battery is bad. I've seen it enough times.

Dead battery/Wrong
They come in different mA/H ratings yours should be 53mA/H

Wrong/Bad Power Supply
Many variations on them (OEM DELL has a white tip)

Electronic bads or bad coil on front end
Parts blow sometimes.
