can always add that Asst HC title for more money, Rivera has no assistant head coaches.

Not that it matters a ton. He had it in SD. It doesn't keep you from going to be a head coach by any means.

to give an honest criticism, since I was talking about this elsewhere, I'm tired of all the shotgun runs. First down shotgun runs to DW across Cam's face means he has no room to cut, and not that much room to read. It's from his past, but that doesn't mean it's his best use, and I'm tired of seeing that play net us 2nd and 8/2nd and 11.

I just read that after his solid 2007 season in Cleveland, Chud turned down an opportunity to interview for the Ravens head coaching job to remain in Cleveland with Romeo Crenell.

2008 turned out to be a poor year for the Browns offense. Can anyone fill in the blanks on why this was? I know they had Derek Anderson at QB for the majority of both years.

Should the jury still be out on Chud until he puts together 2 solid years? Does he view not interviewing for the Ravens after 1 good year a mistake? Would he do the same thing now?

    Thoughts??

Don't know, but I like what I've seen so far in terms of play design and adjusting to the roster. I judge coordinators less on a results, since that really has to do with the players executing.

From the AP about an hour ago:

Panthers use play from 'Little Giants'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski has shown he's not afraid to dig deep into his playbook, even if it means borrowing a trick play from a kids' movie.

With quarterback Cam Newton under center, Chudzinski is finding new ways to use the talented rookie's athleticism to his advantage. The latest move was borrowing a hidden-ball trick called "the annexation of Puerto Rico" from the movie "The Little Giants" to help the Panthers beat the Texans 28-13.

It's not the first time Chudzinski has ventured into a gadget play to ignite the offense -- and probably won't be the last. Two weeks earlier, he used a throwback pass from receiver Legedu Naanee to Newton that resulted in a big gain and nearly another touchdown.

I think the past history with the one good year might hurt him. Plus, he's not a charismatic coordinator (more Childress/Morhinweg than Mariucci, to use the WCO equivalents, not to say he's Childress), from a leadership standpoint. Young and uncharismatic does do different things for the imagination than does young and charismatic.

2008, part of it was tinkering. Anderson didn't have a good year, followed by forcing in Brady Quinn. They had no draft picks in the first 3, which is never helpful. Jamal Lewis also saw a downturn in productivity, but wasn't hurt or anything. There doesn't seem to be a big reason, outside of starting 0-3 and tinkering too much.

Defensively they fired Grantham to promote the DBs coach, Mel Tucker - they were still bad, but they improved in passing and takeaways so that doesn't seem to have made a difference (defense was terrible in 07 also) and wouldn't have impacted the O that much.

Obvious fit in SD when they fire Norv.

Actually just linked to the Chargers on NFL Network.

It's going to be tough to keep him
