Butler still gone: Cornerback Darius Butler remains in Florida with his infant daughter, Milan, who had heart surgery Thursday. He was scheduled to return to Charlotte on Friday, but called Rivera and told him he needed to stay with his family.

"They're still at the hospital with the baby, so I don't anticipate him being here," said Rivera, adding that his thoughts and prayers are with Butler.

On his Twitter page, Butler said his daughter had a setback Friday morning but was doing well.

R.J. Stanford would be the third cornerback behind starters Chris Gamble and Captain Munnerlyn if Butler does not play.

Extra points: The Panthers could be thin in the secondary against the Vikings. Backup safety Jordan Pugh, who has not practiced since his concussion at Atlanta two weeks ago, is doubtful for Sunday's game. Jermale Hines will be the No. 3 safety.

Underrated player with Cleveland, but it sounds like injuries have ruined him.
