Simply from the perspective of an Alabama fan. Tebow couldn't put the Florida team on his back and beat Alabama the way that Cam did. Cam is also bigger, I don't know if he is stronger.

So I was stating that on my opinion as a follower of Alabama football. However since I had a feeling that Newton was a better athlete I decided to look up the numbers and here is what I found.

Newton
6-5, 248 pounds
4.59 40-yard dash
35 inch vertical leap
10' 6" broad jump

Tebow
6-3, 236 pounds
4.71 40-yard dash

38.5 inch vertical leap

9' 7" broad jump

Needless to say I am pleased that these numbers support what I felt about the two and I am one who thinks that Newton is a superior athlete.

Good grief. There's not a lot of difference in their 40 time or their jumps. It's fine to argue that Newton is the better athlete, but they're pretty similar overall, and it would be dubious to suggest that either was an elite athlete by NFL standards. People tend to assume that Newton is a dramatically superior athlete because he's black while Tebow is white, but that doesn't appear to be actually true.

On the flip side, I have seen plenty of examples of the hideous (Cam = Jamarcus) comparison. Mostly from complete morons, so you have to take that into account.

Cam is more athletic because he is black.

I have to admit I was one of those. Russell in my opinion doesn't have the drive to become a great NFL player so he failed.

Newton, however has shown nothing but drive so he has changed my opinion of him by his actions.

I'm not accusing you in particular of that, but it's a common assumption. It's just a pet peeve because a lot of people were describing Newton as some kind of elite athlete since he went #1 overall, when I really don't believe that's the case. He's a good athlete by NFL standards, but not exceptional. If he's going to be a success, it will have to be with his arm, and he does have potential there as a passer.

I think you were trying to keep me honest. Which is fine with me.
