I think Young was forced on Fisher, it was the owners pick. McNair i cant say, i didnt follow the oilers that closely. But what exactly are we saying here?

McNair was a legitimate talent, Young was too. One obviously had better leadership skills. Young has talent, he's just fucked in the head somehow.

Its not about the color of skin, for every J.Russell there's a Ryan Leaf, its work ethic and leadership abilities that will seperate the wheat from the chaff.

So ask yourself this, does Newton have those qualities? Gil Brandt seems to think so from his conversations.

Jimmy was supposed to be accurate. Whatever happened, he wasn't.

But, he does throw a good deep ball. What seemed to be a good, accurate deep ball. I mean it was rarely seen, and it never worked, but it was there. What still doesn't get me is why he wasn't more accurate everywhere else, of course. Which, we can crap on Kiper and say Clausen was inflated, but nobody made up that the guy was talented. I think we just all thought he was more ready. It's become clear that by camp, JC wasn't. I think based on the idea that he was supposed to be ready, that 2010 means he's as good as he's gonna get, is incorrect.

Warner was this offense's best QB, and he wasn't a huge arm. I think Cam has a huge arm. Is he accurate? They're clearly nowhere near the same thing, and he doesn't have that right now.

Yup. I think the last bit is especially on the money. Reportedly cam has not been particularly accurate in tryouts and most of us saw him enough last year to know that accuracy was not his strong suit. When he actually had to think it was pointed out enough that he got less accurate (makes sense). He'll have to do a whole bunch of that thinking stuff in the NFL. So would he be more accurate than jimmy his first couple of years? I personally doubt it. Can he throw it farther? Sure. Is he more mobile? Hell yeah. Is he a better natural leader? Probably. I'm not saying he won't eventually be a better QB (win more games) than jimmy. I, like many claim that he's no #1 overall franchise QB. He definitely will not be a winning QB for his first couple of years, unless he gets catered to and carried, and that wouldn't happen in carolina.

So it's probable that we take Newton #1 overall and still blow this coming season and get the #1 again with Luck likely to finally be coming out? That sounds about right...

He was known for being really odd in college, which is one of the things that made him slip in the draft despite superior physical talent.

Mags: you've studied the new O scheme well, so I won't even try to debate it. Your point about Warner is well taken.

Simple answer: it's typical to take the best athlete on the board, when possible. Miller, Peterson tie for 1st on my amateur fanboy board. A close 2nd is Newton, who could outrun Jamarcus Russell in a 100-yd dash, while letting Russell start from the 50 just to be nice. LB is not a pressing need. CB is a need. QB is a must. Rivera wants someone for the long-haul. Newton may not be his guy. But, about 75% of all trusted reporters believe it's going to happen. Plus, the local paper is making a strong push, too. Yay, endless debates!
