With some not to friendly words after asking John Fox's future with Panthers on some chat at foxsports.com:

"No, his contract expires. I'd be stunned if the owner down there spent money on a guy like cowher. This guy has shaved his payroll as many ways as he could to prepare for the lockout. Cut their salary cap a ton and wouldn't allow Fox to offer assistants more than 1-year deals 2 out of the last 3 years, which means he can't really get the type of staff he wants. It's ridiculous what that owner has done to that place, which had been the home of a perennial winner "

and asked about Julius Peppers departure from Carolina:

Writer:Glazer, why did Carolina offer Peppers the big deal if he was concerned about the lockout?

"Jay Glazer: Ummm, they didn't, he's in Chicago. They could have chosen to have kept him but didn't offer him anything to stay. Peppers also didn't like what was going on there either with how the upstairs was taking things "

I was always under the impression Carolina offered him very similar money before he left

Did I miss the back to back winning seasons?

You beat me to this. I just don't see why everyone assumes Fox was so successful here. 3 winning seasons out of 9, no back to backs.
And I don't care if his worst season (until this year, at least) is 7-9..it's still a losing season.

He was certainly hot and cold but he got us to a superbowl and a NGCCG while he was here. He also got us a division title and first round bye in 2008. All that with no legit QB. He also kept us together in the bad years. There were not really bad years before this year. Those teams that started off bad could have ended up with three wins but always managed 7 or 8.

I still think he is a good coach and will be successful somewhere else.

i think he's a pretty good defensive coach. i think it's laughable how incapable our offense has been. and while you can say well he didn't have this, that or the other on offense, like delhomme at qb and sketchy wrs etc etc, that's been fox as well. a 9 year term here and there's been zilch at those positions, not for lack of trying though, which is unfortunate.

Any of this not true about our ownership? IMO this is mainly why our team is where it is currently...

Glazer speaks a good bit of truth, although I believe JR's cheapness in 2010 is more related to his overall plans for 2011's personnel, both coach, staff and players.

Fox has done well, and I would be in favor of him staying. But Glazer is putting him a notch higher than he belongs on the coaching tree.
