Beneficial or quacks? I never thought much of them and my doctor (of course thinks alike) I was wondering if I was in the minority of not

I have a rare congenital disorder where my spine extends about a foot and a half from the coccyx into my penis. Gives new meaning to the term "boner." Anyway, my hogleg has a half dozen vertebrae, which I'm constantly displacing with all the tugging and pulling and whatnot. Dr. Marlene Hagadorn is my chiropractor and her services are quite beneficial, thank you. She once used her teeth to repair a bulging disc.

i had some early symptoms of sciatica, due to some nerve impingement, a few years back and went to a chiropractor. they ran me through the gamut, xrays, therapy, deep tissue massage (LOVED THAT), myofascial release, acupuncture, adjustments.....and after a few months, they sent me to another doctor who said i could begin running again, which is what i think caused my problems to begin with. whatever.

but the best thing i got from all that was an education in what to do and what not to do, regarding spinal health and the importance of core strength. they got me off the pavement and back into the gym. i still have some symptoms from time to time but it has not progressed any further than it was earlier.

they got the spinal decompression therapy now. dont know much about the long lasting effects. my friend at work goes a couple times a week.

you can take this for what its worth. i'm still the village idiot.

I think I have a pinched nerve in my lower right back/hip. Went to chiropractor and he says spine is fine but my pelvic bone is tilted forward causing the nerve to come into contact with hip bone causing god awful pain. I also went to my regular doctor and he prescribed me muscle relaxer and prednezone. I am have done both for 4-5 days now and while pain is better it flared back to bad. Been swapping back and forth with heat for a short while then ice for extended period. Sharp siring pain as if I was stabbed with a red hot piece of re-bar. My regular doctor said give it a couple of weeks and come back if it hasn't gotten better so he can set me up with a MRI. Since it doesn't sound like a disc issue would a cortisone shot help? I had 2 in my foot for plantar fashiatis (sp) and really didn't see any benefit

Go see Dr. Peter Clarke in Concord, near the industrial park on Poplar Tent Rd.
He's not the typical crack yer bones guy.

Random place for a first post, but whatever.

I'm a Physician Assistant. I dig chiropracty as a adjunct treatment for a number of issues, mostly dealing with the spine and hips. But only in conjunction with traditional medicine under the supervision of a MD or DO. When used with medications, physical therapy, lifestyle modification, proper imaging, and (when necessary), surgery, I think it's potentially a valuable resource for patients. Communication between providers is key, though. Have the one call the other, or take copies of their notes to each.

However, I've encountered more'n a few chiropractors who, as individuals, I was very unimpressed by. Chiropractors who promise to fix kidney issues or claim to diagnose disc problems via x-rays give the whole profession a bad name. Those guys are really doing everyone--themselves, their co-workers, and most importantly, the patients--a disservice.

I've got a chiropractor in my family. Claims he can correct ED with a spinal adjustment. He's a quack. Claims he can stop seizures with acupuncture too.

the shots are gonna be a short term fix paul. it will come back.

i know guys who've had back surgery and still compete in triathalons. my boss has had two surgeries and will not lift or push anything in fear of re-aggravating the sciatica.

catching it early seems to be the key. i'd try everything else before letting them cut on me. all bets are off after that.

you were doing so well with your workout program too. do you think you did somethng at the gym to aggravate the sciatica?
