    48. Dexter McCluster, WR - sure, he's a risk. He's hardly played a lick of WR. He didn't time in a tenth as fast as people thought he could. They were expecting low 4.4s and he pulled a 4.58. So why?
Guy's a football player, and a near-elite returner. I don't even know I have him all that high. But I like him as much as anyone left, and I wanted to go with someone different than the DT.

    78. Geno Atkins, DT/DE - he's fast, he's strong. He's a bit of a project. But he has somewhat of a first round type ability. At worst he's an undersized DT like they thought before the Senior Bowl. Reminds me of a 285-290 lb Kris Jenkins, the dominant first step, can't-keep-weight on and will be hell when he learns to stay low and use his hands type DT.

    112. Jacoby Ford, WR - sure. I have a WR. To hell with it, McCluster could've been faster. Ford couldn't possibly be faster. He's another returner, and I think this draft will be special teams-heavy. We probably won't draft 2 WR, or two RS, but we've done it before - the DW/Marshall pair.

    175. A.J. Jefferson, CB - good returner - a third guy. That gives us 5 solid guys to fight it, six if you consider Moore. 5'11, 185 lb corner from Fresno State. Less experienced than Marshall but really not terribly different. Bump and run guy who fits as a nickel type.

    202. Myron Rolle, S - is the type guy you want on your team. I'm really kinda fucking surprised he's not higher. Did he suddenly lose a bunch of talent by missing a year? No. Did he get stronger? yes. Is he 6'2, 215, did 21 reps, and was under 4.6? yes. His 20 shuttle was fantastic. He's what you want. Hell fifteen pounds more you just let him pursue from LB.

It turns out I picked him almost a round early. I'm OK with that. Guy is, at worst, your special teams captain and the guy who tells everyone else how to do their jobs. At best he's one of those magical cover 2 guys who you're not surprised to look back in a decade and see he made a difference in how you played.

    204. Vince Oghubaase - solid one-gap 3 technique guy. Duke so he can't be stupid, Reggie Love aside. I think he's developmental, and can be stashed.

    223. Arthur Moats, OLB - 4.55 speed this late. College defensive end. In the meantime he'll play special teams, because hopefully our three starters are set for a while.

I kind of like the idea of drafting two WRs. It increases our odds of finding one who can help us right away. It is not like we have a ton of guys we like on the roster so it should be no problem keeping two draft picks at WR.

first pick really needs to be a #1 WR and Bryant, Tate, and Williams will be gone by 48. The more I read about Thomas the more he seems like a possession guy with injury issues. Benn and Lafell are also not enough of that deep threat Smitty was asking for. I don't like Gilyard as a #1 NFL WR probability and he apparently has some ball security and drop issues. That leaves three who can represent a consistent enough deep threat IMO. Though Roberts, Price, and Mitchell are all small school players they are all considered solid NFL #1 types by most scouts.
Here's some interesting info I found last night:
    >>>> "03/19/2010 - PRO DAY RESULTS: A contingent from the Carolina Panthers were among 15 teams who came to Ohio University's pro day on March 11 to watch 17 players ??? 10 from Ohio University and seven from local small schools ??? work out outdoors on FieldTurf. Panthers offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson, wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert and GM Marty Hurney were all on hand to direct a 30-minute workout with WR Taylor Price (6-feet 3/8, 202 pounds), who stood on all of his numbers from the Scouting Combine but ran position drills and caught passes from Ohio University QBs Brandon Jones and Theodis Scott. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com"<<<<

Maybe they are hoping that one of those three small school badasses will last until #78 but if I were them I would just go ahead and take my guy. Sure hope our new WR guy can pick a winner for us, hitting the bulls-eye with that first pick is crucial.

48 - WR Taylor Price . . . seems like a good fit to me, but I would not be surprised for them to gamble on Mitchell or Roberts either.

78 - CB/RS Javier Arenas . . . fills two needs and he probably will be there for us so a WR/RS won't be needed.

112 - DE Te'O-Neshiam . . . had not read much about him before yesterday and he does seem Meeks friendly. Good one Magnus!

    175 - LB O'Brian Schofield . . . though he'll be rehabbing all of 2010 he'd be a huge steal here once healthy

202 - SS Myron Rolle . . . have a really hard time believing that he'll be here but I sure as hell hope so for our sake, another gigantic theft

204 - G/T Ciron Black . . . Chris Scott probably has that pesky fatty-battle issue so I'd take Black.

    223 - WR Freddie Barnes . . . here's your 2nd WR Thelt, and he's another small school hero.

249 - C/G Jeff Byers (USC) . . . (not on list) he was apparently impressive Senior week and is a zone blocker type.

I have to believe that some decent undrafted QBs and Ks will like their chances of sticking in Carolina. All our FO will need to do is bring in a vet QB, DT, TE and maybe a FB/Goins type after cuts to push out Sutton.

I approached this one from a different perspective. We have lost, or will not sign, a number of players from last year’s roster. Most of them we hopefully have their replacement on the roster just waiting to step up and be a starter. There are 2 players that we lost though that we have questionable replacements for. Muhsin Muhammad and Brad Hoover. They were the only starting players to fill the vital “OOOooo” role on our team. Sure we have Duke Robinson, but are we expecting him to start for us and keep a valuable “OOOooo” on the field every game? I don’t think so. How can we expect to compete for the ultimate prize without MOOOooose and/or HOOOooover? That is what the draft, or at least this draft, is for.

    48. Tyson Aluala, DT, California
I know it is a reach but I think we can go with AlOOOoooala. I thought about Akwasi Owusu-Ansah the CB from Indiana. The OwOOOooosOOOooo would work but he has that nagging –Ansah problem.

    78. Corey Wootton, DE, Northwestern
WOOOoooton is a natural fit for our system.

    112. Boo Smith, DT, Louisiana Tech
Prototypical “OOOooo” player. I don’t know how he lasted this long.

    175. Ed Wang, OT, Virginia Tech
Sometimes you have to step outside of the box. I think in time a “Wang Pancake” would be a point of pride for the whole team.

Or trade up a couple of places and take

    173. Riley Cooper, WR, Florida
Having a COOOoooper on the team would be a return to the glory days.

    202. Duke Calhoun, WR, Memphis
I know this is a redundant pick seeing how we already have Duke Robinson but competition is always good.

    204. Ryan Perriloux, QB, Jacksonville State
Has a lot going for him. Obviously the PerilOOOooo fits our neads perfectly. The “-loux” helps fill the Cajun gap created by cutting DelHommie. And he has the all important “X” factor.
