the last two regimes each cut their starting QB in the year they themselves would get fired.
Collins went, then Dom. Beuerlein, then George.

    Thought the same.

Data mining is just that. This should be a very different situation. They made the right move - I've been hoping they'd cut Delhomme for months. I didn't feel that way about Collins or Bline. Nobody did, really.

Collins walked out on the team...... IMO he should never have been let back in football

Agreed, but the absence of a contract extension for Fox bugs the crap out of me.

I felt there were reasons to cut Beuerlein, but the Collins fiasco was classic Dom.

the thread isn't a "Fox will get fired" situation, but certainly, QB was the downfall of two solid coaches before him. I think conversely, had he not gotten cut, Fox would inevitably find trouble.

I wanted to keep Bline. I thought he still had something left in the tank at the time. I think Jake is done. I think his arm is shot and that he will never be able to start in the NFL again. Keeping him would have just tempted Fox to play him over the more promising younger guy.

Either way this might be Fox's last year. He may choose not to return after this season even if the team wants him back.

One thing you have to admit is that the Fox/Jake era was far and away the most successful stretch in team history.

Dom was over his head as a GM/HC, Collins was just one issue, Gilbert was another... the team quit on Seifert, he didn't connect with the players and he made his own bed going with Jeff Lewis/Chris Weinke... Fox had a QB go 12-4 the year before last... I don't think it's the same

Dom was in over his head as either one.

Clausen isn't necessarily Weinke, but that's the last time we drafted a QB people knew.
