I fired my Discover Card snake. I still have two cards but I have not charged anything to one of them in over two years. I am just paying it down each month.

Evidently BofA is going to start charging an annual fee to "SOME" read "Unprofitable" card holders. There is some kind of test going on now. I figure they'll hit me since I hardly use the card and just use it, always pay it in full, and just have it as complement to my AMEX card. If the fee comes, I cancel.

Just wanted to share my bad experiences and how I recovered.

I too was facing issues with my credit card firm. At the start all was well but within a few months I saw the bills were not either correct or were in excess. Initially I thought I might be a bit overexpensive. Then I started keeping a note of the transactions that I did using this card. When I found the problem was with them, I consulted an Advisor.

The worst of all was opened up before me when I consulted a finacial advisor. I feel that most of us around are unaware of the legal aspects. Here is what my Advisor suggested -
    1. Read the Tos of the organization. It always has many loopholes. If unable to understand, it is better to consult the Advisor first.
    2. The advisor can explain you the legal implications and appropriate steps that can be taken in case of frauds or excess billing.

    Nice perk for free

Find a bank, Wells Fargo will offer this after the first of the year, and put 4 or 5 hundred bucks in a secured credit card offered by the bank.
    DON'T use it period.
Your available balance stays the same or at least close to the same, ie maybe a $30 yearly fee.
The kicker in this gig is that your credit report is "credited" with having paid your monthly balance on time.
Perfect for parents to put a little cash in the kitty in their kids name. It builds credit and pisses off the Vulture credit card companies.

I have paid off all my cards. The last one I paid off with a personal loan from the credit union. The balance is not gone yet but it is now in an installment loan with an interest rate about half of what the credit card was charging me. I have closed all my credit cards except for one I left open for emergencies. I has no balance owed. Feels good to have that debt gone or at least better managed.

I have lost faith on the credit card companies as they charge more then the asking rate. Similarly , once they find that a person has defaulted then they will mark him as the bad debtor and after wards nobody trust him any more.
