Other than shoe, as a jogger, you will need socks, shirts, shorts, and sweatshirts. It seems that for what ever reason, jogging clothes are always in style. While it doesn’t hurt to have jogging clothes that are in fashion, if they only fashionable and not functional, it does hurt. Remember to choose function over looking good when it comes to choosing your jogging apparel.
Socks
To a jogger, socks are almost as important as jogging shoes. When it comes to socks, you have several choices. Here are your choices with their pros and cons.
• Thick socks - good for absorbing sweat, but they actually make your feet sweat more and make your feet hot. If you choose thick socks, make sure your jogging shoes have cooling technology.
• Thin socks are good for long-distance running because they help in preventing blisters.
• Synthetic running socks are light and cool. They are designed so that they move the sweat away from your feet but if your running shoes don’t have cooling technology, it may be better for you to stay with cotton socks.
Running Shorts
The most popular shorts for running are shorts made with synthetic fibers. These shorts were designed to move moisture away from your skin to the outer lay of the material where it can evaporate easily. Besides the material, another important consideration is the fit of the shorts. If you are more comfortable wearing baggy shorts for modesty’s sake, by all means, go ahead. Baggy shorts tend to hinder your movement while you’re running and for this reason many joggers go with well-fitting jogging pants. Whichever style you choose, it is best that they fit well through the hips and are above your knees.
Running Shirts
As in running shorts, shirts that are made with synthetic fiber are more popular with joggers because of their ability to move the sweat away from their bodies. Cotton shirts are not recommended because they tend to hold the sweat and can rub parts of your body raw while you jog.
Additional Apparel
Tights
Tights are something that aren’t required to jog but are great to have on cold days. A good pair of tights are form fitting and do well to keep your muscles warm. The best tights will be made out of spandex, nylon, or lycra.
Running Vests
Running vests are to protect you from the elements when the weather gets bad. Choose a vest that will keep you from overheating but doesn’t absorb moisture. Good quality vests are usually made of nylon with mesh inserts so you have ventilation. Make sure it is light and comfortable.
As you can see, the equipment required for jogging is minimal compared to other sports. Keeping this in mind, when you do purchase your running apparel since you don’t have to buy a lot of equipment, make sure you buy quality that will enhance your jogging experience.
