The timing was perfect for me too, as I ordered a pair of all six pictured.

Back to WFNZ. Have not heard the voice of Tom Reilly(sp) in weeks. Called during Frank & Buck, (very easy to get thru, must not have many callers) and whoever answered, it was not Mark Yarbro, would only say that Tom was not on the Frank & Buck show. He would not say if Tom got fired or laid off or quit or had been reassigned within "CBS Radio". The guy would only repeat himself saying that Tom wasn't on the Frank & Buck show.

Anybody hear anything or read anything in the paper about this? Thanks.

    more to come...

I have no idea if Tom (TTT) was doing a good job or not, but I can tell you with some degree of confidence that there will be major shake-ups at WFNZ sooner than later. They are in a downward spiral with no clear path to success. Their morning show is just silly time. Even when Gary was there, Celania came off as an ill-informed joker who was living in the past (I happened to like Jim and his commentary). Now, when you throw in Mac it just becomes a queer mix of frivolity that has little real entertainment value and even less cutting edge sports commentary. They have lost their way.

    Frank and Buck. 'nuff said.

Packer....please show some originality. Your stuff is tired and becoming more tiresome. Caller-driven = red-neck driven (Johnny from Effingham
is not quality sports talk radio). We are tired hearing about how you and your guest hosts are gorging yourselves on platters of fatty foods. Please quit just mailing it in and cashing the check. I know you are big buds with Jim Nantz, Boo Weekly and many others, but they can only carry you for so long.

In time, something different will happen and it will follow the decline in ad revenue that follows the decline in ratings which will follow the decline in quality programming.....and so on.

    That's good news if true.

I like Celania too but his main problem is that Charlotte has grown so much since he got here. When he starts talking about the golden days when he first arrived at WCNC I sometimes feel like he's talking right to me and a select few others. I imagine most of his audience didn't live in Charlotte when he was on tv, and couldn't care less about how pretty he thought Jesse James was.

Good point. Celania is very likeable, but has reached an age where looking back is more fun than looking forward. He has told many great stories and he likes to hint of "escapades".....but I think Jim prefers activities that don't involve much exertion, like jacking his jaws and tipping more than a few back most days. Jim is not the problem at WFNZ. Their on-air personalities don't have the pop to truly carry a show that provides meaningful sports commentary and insight...hence we get silly sounds, farting jokes, Bubba's BBQ platter chatter and the endless drone of who's gonna kick who's butt.

I'm one of the select few, too. I was born, raised, and still live in the area. I can easily remeber Jim as the WCNC sports guy, back when local TV gave more than 45 seconds to sports. I also remeber Jim and Benny Parsons doing their little show during sports...that was pretty good. Charlotte has changed dramatically in his time and I do think it's good that that kind of perspective is there.

I do hope that what Low & Slow said is true. Like others here, I enjoy sports talk radio, especially good, locally-centered talk. Hopefully they will figure this out and get a balance of intelligent talk with some shows being trash-talk. I'm sure they're a balance that can be had...mornings = intelligent talk, afternoons = smack talk, maybe?

But you have to be careful here, it can't be ONLY locally-centered.
The Carolinas are a growing market, but there are times when nothing's going on around here locally.
During the winter, you can only listen to the Duke-UNC pissing contest for so long before you want to kill yourself. We have no big league baseball, and local Hockey and NBA here have limited audiences. (Although I do like the Panthers coverage in the fall).
You have to have the national option as well as local flavor.
