Rules of the marketplace will prevail

I agree, WFNZ lacks any credible voice and offers no reason to listen. My son and I used to listen to the Morning Sports Page while driving in the morning, but not anymore. We listen to Paul Schadt and country music now (yes, I miss Gary Williams). I feel sorry for Celania...he was a legitimate sidekick for Gary and his irreverent approach worked in harmony with Gary's professional and knowledgable manner. Now Jim is is sports radio purgatory, forced to deal with a paid moron while he watches his own long career wind down in a quagmire of silliness. Sports fans are tuning out in droves in the morning and the mid-day stuff is beyond comprehension....yeah, the management is saving money while they write their own obituary.

Packer's show has too many red-neck callers and the same ol' drivel day after day. The whiner line with its' barely bleeped cursing is an attack on civility, but I'm sure it is well-loved by the Jerry Springer crowd. In the end when nothing is left but those yahoos, the advertisers will realize that WFNZ is a good place to advertise if you sell Budweiser and various ointments, but not much else. Charlotte will not have locally produced sports talk radio in a few years....just follow the money. It will be going elsewhere.

 

I tried again yesterday afternoon, and they were talking to the "Get-Some " guy , the inbred caller who likes to call in and scream into the phone... and they let him rant on to Cornbred for 10 minutes before I had to switch it off again. Please god, just give me the national espn feed. No more hill-billies.

 

Sadly, I can see the bolded part of your statement happening. Not sad in that this current group (save Celania and Yarborough) is just terrible, sad in that a market this size wouldn't have any local sports talk. While picking up lunch, I'll put on Frank and Buck sometimes...what a trainwreck that is. It's amazing what they don't know. Garcia will often say that he doesn't really know about something...well, he's the host of a sports talk show, it's his job to know. It's things like this that just sum up the mess they're in now. Hopefully, the ratings paired with sponsor concerns will force them to make changes for the better.

 

With their current line-up, it's almost like they are intentionally letting it spiral into the ground. Hopefully, their next "big announcement" will be wholesale changes in their programming.

 

Why can't they just keep 1660 on ESPN 24-hours? Keep the local stuff on 610. Give us an option. Give me Mike and Mike and Doug Gottlieb in the afternoon.

I listened to Frank and Buck yesterday at lunch. They got the play by play gy from the cavs and they were struggling to find questions to ask him. Yarborough kinda of rescued them but it was akward to listen to.
