HA! There's a reason you don't see courses on this or lots of books...

Learn SMS, Exchange, Sharepoint, or some other widely used technology that allows entry-level people to do things...

Our lab came has an As/400 system running Mysis software. It seems nicely tuneable, but I don't run it.

I know most of that stuff. Though SMS is a bit more confusing since going to System Center. Like for instance why can I not run System Center Essentials on a 2008 server. I checked MS and they said I could in the future, but its not possible not. That baffles me that both softwares would be coming out about the same time, but be incompatible... ANYWAYS my reasoning is, there are a TON of places hiring and it looks good to know AS/400. I agree its some antiquated crap, but a job is a job.

Better to focus on one thing and get GOOD at it...
SMS/SCCM rock, and there are always a lot of high-paying jobs for people that know what they're talking about with it ($100k+). A LOT more people know AD and Exchange, but top people in those also get big bucks. And Sharepoint is the biggest unleveraged asset in many large customers, being able to whip that stuff together (which needs some dev skills to truly make it hum) is a HUGE skillset.

AS/400 is goodness, but do you really want to go there?

Do you really want to learn a dinosaur technology? Though they are nice mini mainframe systems, that is a dying industry. Cluster servers, blade servers and other new technology is killing off 1992 systems aka System30/32 platforms. That would be like learning COBOL in the 21st Century. Soon the only jobs for AS400 with be data migration to the newer platforms.

In truth, you will be faced lack of employment in the next few years.
