This will definitly start some debate: List your baseball dream team, 8 position players (no DH) 5 pitchers (must include a lefty and righty) and a closer

THIS IS YOUR DREAM TEAM, NOT THE NECESSARILY THE GREATEST AT EVERY POSITION (IF IT WAS WE COULD JUST LOOK AT THE ALL CENTURY TEAM) AND IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO EXPLAIN SOME PICKS, PLEASE DO

PS: I am sure this has probably been up here before, justwant to hear it again.

    C: Johnny Bench
1B: Lou Gehrig (You don't have to have a back up w/ him on your team)
2B: Jackie Robinson (Not just b/c of stats, but for what he did for baseball)
3B: Mike Schmidt (His stats are far and above other 3B (unless you count A Rod), but what if Pujols played his whole career at 3B)
SS: Ozzie Smith (Sure to catch some grief for this one, but pure energy and great defense, worth double the price of admission)
LF: Ted Williams (Spent 3 years in the army and still put up ridiculous career numbers)
CF: Willie Mays (Wish I was old enough to watch him play in person)
    RF: Babe Ruth

SP:(Intimidation mixed with a little craftiness)
    Bob Gibson
    Nolan Ryan
    Greg Maddux
    Randy Johnson
    Sandy Koufax

CP: Mariano Rivera (Making closing look easy for the last 12 seasons)

Pretty good team. I'll give it some thought but from first look, I would have to put Warren Spahn somewhere on the pitching staff.

Fuck Randy Johnson. I'd put Steve Carlton or Bob Feller in his place

It's so hard to do these kind of list because of who you leave off. Stan Musial for instance was an awesome player but who would you leave off?

Carlton, Spahn, and Feller all good calls. Hell I contemplated making a second team, pitchers you can go 10-15 deep. LF and RF there are atleast 5 other guys you could make the argument for. I am surprised I haven't been ripped for Ozzie yet. I took Randy b/c he was so dominate over a 5 year period in the late 90's early 2000's, not necessarily his career numbers (which are still awesome 2nd most Ks all time). Side by side, Gibson's career win total isn't in the top 25 all time, Nolan Ryan's career losses total (292 compared to 324 Wins) would knock him down, Maddux's Ks/9 is by far the lowest, Koufax only 165 career wins. Pick your poison, this is why u love the game.

PS: I also grew up in the 80's and 90's, so I was influenced by Sportscenter

Is there any player that we all agree has to be on this list?

Hard to argue with Gehrig, Bench, Ruth and Mays. 3rd base an argument of Brooks Robinson due to his defense but Schmidt has 10 GG on his on and more home runs and RBIs and I think better career batting average. OF you can put so many other players on there. Bonds (yuck) Aaron and the above mentioned Musial. Reliever Rollie Fingers or Eckersly (sp)

What about the DH? Reggie Jackson?
