nothing new here really. Also, Redman stepped in and did OK but couldn't make a squad in years. We're comparing to a guy who made a Pro Bowl and started in the league for years. I'd have to see defenses adjust to a guy before I'd call them equal, plenty of players have looked respectable for a few games and it doesn't make them anywhere near starter quality.

In page after page, and this will go all the way back to the first part of this thread in 2004, is that there have been at most a couple picks and a couple FAs that became legitimately, consistently better. If we can do better, then let's do better, because we can do better - teams just don't let those guys get out.

And no, I don't feel like platooning or throwing fifty veterans at the problem and letting them go once they start playing worth a damn in hopes the next one might. There really aren't a hundred guys I'd trust with this franchise that are readily available.

I have been irrefutably proven to be the absolute best at evaluating internet message board tools, and there are at least 100 better than any of you here.

You mean like Jake Delhomme from 1997 through the last two games of 1999? Jake made a Pro Bowl because it was a weak year in the NFC and he was throwing to Steve Smith. Over a full season he has never had a quarterback rating above 88.1, which is just average for quarterbacks of this era, most of whom don't have a Steve Smith. QB rating isn't the end all and be all of passing statistics, but lots of guys have had at least one season of 90+. Shit, Matt Cassel hadn't started a game since high school but he had a QB rating of 89.4 this season. Is Cassel a great quarterback? No. Should he be given a big contract? No. There are 100 other guys as good or better than Matt Cassel, he's just decent and had the fortune to play with a lot of talent around him.

Several career backups emerge every season and post solid numbers when given a chance. The difference is that most organizations don't make P.R. decisions and give those guys a huge contract to stay as a starter. Again, Delhomme went undrafted for a reason, he has bad mechanics, he's not accurate, and he makes dumb decisions with the ball under pressure. Those are facts.

In seven postseason games, has completed 113-of-192 passes for 1,642 yards and 11 touchdowns with five interceptions for a 95.0 passer rating...Owns 5-2 postseason record...Passer rating of 95.0 ranks third in NFL history behind Joe Montana's (104.8) and Bart Starr's (95.6)...Generated passer rating of 100 or better in five of seven postseason starts...First quarterback in NFL history to guide team to four consecutive postseason road victories...Four postseason road wins tie Roger Staubach (4-1) and Len Dawson (4-1) for most in NFL history...One of four quarterbacks in NFL history to throw a touchdown pass in first seven postseason contests, joining Dan Marino (13 consecutive games), Bernie Kosar (eight) and Kurt Warner (seven)...Completed 45 postseason passes for 739 yards and six touchdowns to wide receiver Steve Smith.Earned first career Pro Bowl selection in 2005.Ended 2003 postseason with a passer rating of 106.1, the highest for a quarterback making his first postseason appearance (minimum three postseason starts) since 1985 when New England's Tony Eason recorded a rating of 119.0 and Chicago's Jim McMahon notched a rating of 106.6.Super Bowl XXXVIII passer rating of 113.6 was the highest for a quarterback starting his first Super Bowl since San Francisco's Steve Young posted a passer rating of 134.8 in 1995 in Super Bowl XXIX. Young's performance also marked the last time a quarterback has had a quarterback rating higher than Jake's in any Super Bowl.

Pressure as in a collapsing pocket, not as in high profile situations. Think before you post.

WOW Your Uncanny talent to evaluate Qb’s has a flaw. What happened when Jake wasn't in the line up? All those post season games seem pretty high pressure to me.
