Whatcha readin'?

I just finished "Beyond Belief" the Josh Hamilton story. For those who don't follow sports, he is a baseball player who all but destroyed a promising career with drug abuse. He fought back and is playing with the Texas Rangers today. As a book goes it's not very well written but what a story ? Good read even though I would like to have learned a bit more about a few things. I guess it got so bad that he can't tell it all.

Possessed: The True Story of an Exorcism, by Thomas B. Allen. It's based on a priest's journal who was involved in the 1949 exorcism of a young boy in St. Louis that inspired the movie, The Exorcist.

This sounded interesting so I checked it out on the Amazon site. I found that there are two "The Omnivore's Dilemma" books by Michael Pollan, "The Search for a Perfect Meal in a Fast-food World" and "A Natural History of Four Meals". I suspect you're referring the the first one. Am I right, and what was the book like after the first 40 pages?

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto

I have not read the second. After describing the corn industry it goes into discussing the "organic" food industry in terms of "big organic" and true local farm organic.

 

I have to look into this a bit further. The Amazon site - the UK one, anyway - has three of his books for sale. One is "In Defense of Food". The other two are "The Omnivore's Dilemma: The Search for a Perfect Meal in a Fast-food World" and "The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals". Perhaps the latter two are different versions of the same book.
