so, as long as we are speculating, which one of our corners would be suited to play safety?
you could move gambe to safety start marshall and use colclough as the nickel.
or you could put marshall at safety and use colclough as a nickel.
or leave marshall and gamble where they are and make colclough a safety.
or of course, move lucas to any of the spots and replace him with marshall.

    or even worse

as long as we are speculating...
move td back to safety and move johnson to his spot.
btw, i'm not advocating any of this. merely providing discussion points.
i think we actually pick one up on the second day of the draft. we will also probably add a vet there when more cuts come.
throw them all against each other and see who is standing once preseason rolls around.

    For shits and giggles....

Obviously, Kennedy is a SS, and will not be a Carolina Panther. But heres something to chew on, fwiw.

    Kennedy's stats last year:

Total tackles: 88. Solo: 59. Assisted: 29. No sacks, 5 Passed defensed, 2 picks.

His best season ever, in his eight years of being a starter in this league?

Total tackles: 98. Solo: 74. Assisted: 24. No sacks, 5 Passes defensed, 2 picks.

Hes going to have more tackles naturally, because hes playing to the line more. Sure. HOWEVER....

Deke Cooper's best season as a pro was last year. Here are his:

Total tackles: 59. Solo: 46. Assisted: 13. No sacks, 4 PD, 3 picks.

    Its just not good enough.

What options are you talking about? Other than the guys that got way overpaid, all I saw were mediocre guys available. But maybe I'm forgetting someone.

I also wonder if we are underestimating how much Fox likes Teal and possibly Wilson. For what it's worth, I hear the coaches felt Teal was usually in the right position and made good decisions, and that they really liked him. So maybe they feel he has the talent to be a starter and is as good as anyone we could have signed...for a lot less.

How do you know Wilson is not picking it up? When he finally got on the field at the end of last season, he didn't make any big mistakes that I can remember and seemed to do ok. Nothing special, but he seemed to have progressed from preseason. Just the fact that he got on the field at all indicates, to me, that he progressed enough that the coaches wanted to get a look at him against live fire. If they truly felt he just wasn't getting it, then he likely would have still been picking splinters out of his ass while all the other rookies got their chance to show something.

Also, remember he was a CB in college, and, since he doesn't have the speed to play CB, we converted him to S. So last year was pretty much just an adjustment year for him. I don't think anyone expected him to come out of the box as a starting calibre FS. I'm not sure how good he can be, or if he'll ever be capable of starting (he may end up being just a scrub for all I know), but I haven't seen or heard anything to indicate he wasn't picking up Safety.

I would like to see us do something to address the position. I like Euguen Wilson is still available. I like Decoud and Demps in the draft. I do think we need to do something, Cooper is not under contract with us at the moment as far as I know.

yeah I think we're just gonna deaft a safety instead of bringing someone in

cant think of anyone who would be an upgrade, maybe Greg Wesley from KC if he gets released!

Wilson signed with the Bucs.....I'm sure that we have no competition in the Cooper sweepstakes and could sign him anytime- he knows the scheme already so we can wait.
