it's a presbyterian church in orange county. the reverend there came up with this little litany thing, tho i think they quit using it the last couple times.

the basic thing is like "why are you here?" and the people respond that they're here because they're lost/confused/scared. the thing goes on to tell them they shouldn't be scared or lost or confused, but the way it unfolds just feels kinda weird. i don't think it's anything overtly meant to demean, but the undertones are kinda odd.

At one time I insisted my husband go to church with me, thinking he might absorb some morality through osmosis or something. He didn't. Until you are truly seeking for yourself, not just trying to please someone, it will be just something for you to ridicule. Obviously you are curious or you wouldn't be in this forum.

curious? not at all. i just like to post about certain subjects.

i agree that you need to be there for yourself, which is kinda why i think it's almost disrespectful to the true believers to be there. not REALLY, but kinda. my general take on groups is that if somebody doesn't want to join, then i think trying to convince them is pointless.

Buying a home was a bigger choice than choosing not to continue to perpetrate the lies that I was taught as a child. I don't wake up each morning and remind myself that I don't believe in a supernatural fairy tale.

Even though I probably would have said it a little more politely, I have to agree with you. It's not a day to day commitment to be an atheist, I just am.

I would need to do a little more research but I don't think being a Christian precludes the existance of other Gods.

Though shalt worship no other God but me

Though shalt not put any God before me

Doesn't mean they don't exist just that Christians and Jews honor one God and one God alone.

God is the most powerful of the heavenly dwellers but there could be other "fallen angels" that have been worshipped throughout time.

This is the way most religion threads on this board go. "Atheists" attacking believers. From Miss Tery to Tharan and beyond most of the "atheists" on this board seem to continually seek self actualization through these attacks. Makes me wonder just how strong their "faith" is.

There are VERY VERY few threads started by Christians attacking atheists for their beliefs.

Big Vito is one of the few exceptions.

True, there are many signs of other 'gods' existing in the OT. Most folks don't particularly realize that, including many pastors that I've known.

She/He got banned didn't she? I wonder why you thin-skinned people continue to allow me to point out reality to you.

You are not exactly innocent, Sly.
