How often does a team draft a QB in the fourth round with the idea that he may start as a rookie?

They just need to get his ass signed asap and get him learning the playbook and working with Delhomie and Carr. If they plan on using a rookie across from Smitty he needs to be prepared mentally as well as physically.

irrelevant. Fourth round picks get fourth round deals. We had no reason to give him anything but a fourth round deal.

No argument about getting him started asap, but I have my doubts that they're gonna instantly elevate him to #2.

Whatever non FB stuff may have influenced the Key cut I doubt it was done with them thinking he was gonna step right in, I think it showed a lot more faith in Colbert and Carter than I ever believed was there.

Or maybe just plain old everyday arrogance on the part of the staff.

I are right of course but screwy things happen with QBs. I will be surprised if Jarrett gets a lot more than what last year's #45 pick got.

Weinke had some bargaining power. The Heisman winner made him a PRs wet dream. Plus, we really didnt have a legitimate #1 QB at the time and both his agent and our FO new it. Its sad that a 4th rounder had us by the short and curlies, but he did.

Id imagine Kolb will get a better deal than what the 36th pick pay scale demands.

he would be a PR dream at a regular rookie contract. We gave up a ton of money for absolutely no fucking reason.

This doesn't concern us really, but remember that ridiculous deal Maurice Clarrett signed a few years back? TUrned down almost all bonus money and put in it ridiculous escalators that he would likely never reach. Turned out great for him...

I don't know about that. Sage Rosenfels went 3 picks after the Weinkster and Jesse Palmer was also taken the same round. They didn't get close to that kind of deal.

Yes we did. Hopefully they will hold the line and not collapse as they (others) did with Weinke.
