Once Wilson went to the Redskins and was no longer playing next to Singletary...he sucked.

Briggs = Wilson as Urlacher = Singletary.

The Urlacher to Singletary reference may be a bit off.

Note the use of the word "AS", just saying the scenario could easly play out the same way.

Maybe one could say Briggs is to Urlacher as Wilson was to Singletary...:fu2:

As a Bears fan, I'm just shaking my head. I think that I can understand things from both sides, but the fans are the biggest losers.

From the Bears side, they want to sign him long term with the smallest amount of cap damage. That is obvious and it will always be this way for teams. The franchise tag is one of their few options and I think that Briggs not wanting to play for 7 mil next year is ridiculous.

From Brigg's side, he is trying to think long term as well. His next play could be his last play (due to injury), thus, why settle for 7 mil when he could be getting 20 mil guaranteed?

    Thus the impasse.

    Thus, the fan loses.

    It sucks.

no it's not. Players who have little impact in comparison are getting more than $7 million up front, without playing a down, but with 5 years' security.

Joey Porter got $20 million guaranteed this year.
$20 million right this second, and job security, or $411,000 in seventeen installments starting in September? That's not ridiculous, I'd want what lesser players are getting.
