Charlotte 49er Football???

Class of 2000. I know from experience.

 

Well, shit. Graduated in '01. I found the academics challenging, but then again that was grad school. I don't think any schooling I've ever been in has been all that hard. Well, organic chemistry kicked my ass, but that was about it.

The Charlotte Football Initiative and the football movement at Charlotte as a whole will be featured on WCNC NEWS6 on the 6:00(wil actually start at 5:52) and the 11:00 on Sunday.

 

I don't think BofA Stadium will be an option for a stadium for the 49'ers. The Richardsons would want a mint for rent on that place.

 

They ought to look at what has been done down at Coastal Carolina. That program is only a few years old but has been very successful, both in record and filling the stands, from the get-go.

 

Brooks Stadium at Coastal is very nice. 10,000 people in attendence for the Furman game a couple of weeks ago. This facility has the potential to grow to almost 20,000 capacity in future expansion. This could happen very soon. Coastal gets a lot of $$$ from Myrtle Beach. I was reading about how much money was contributed to the college and it was unbelievable. Could a football program from Charlotte get the same support?

 

Here's an idea...
sell out every basketball game first. (Maybe attend some of the women's games - they won the league last year.)
That will show your support.

Until that happens, the administration has no reason to think that these dollars will still be coming in if the team goes 3-30 out of the gates.

And it's play money. It's one thing to say you'll support something monetarily. It's quite another to write the check.

 

How many programs sell out every single basketball game? I think of football as more of an "event" as opposed to just a game. Maybe that's just me.

I agree with the play money comment though.

 

When people are camping outside days ahead of time for tickets, you know you have arrived. Charlotte is a basketball school, and not a hugely attended one at that. What would possess the Chancellor and AD to want to do football if the sport that the school is known for doesn't even bring in the folks in droves? There's no impetus to do this. It's a few people who have moderate dollars talking loudly.

Frankly, I wouldn't want to make a decision based on a few people raising dollars (valiantly, but fruitlessly) if I were Chancellor. It would make me look like I cowtow to the alums, which is the last thing he wants to do. These guys are more likely to do a study and make decisions when no one is pounding their door to do so. It shows they are in control.

Now, if you want to make an impact, then pay for the feasability study and pay for consultants to come in and do the surveys and that will show that you're serious about it. Petitions and Web sites have no value because they can't be cashed. Do something and stop talking or you'll just be barking and not sinking your teeth into something.
