...getting a lot of flak from fans and even players about the shitty offense.

Saunders says they're not currently using the exotic groupings and formations they will be using, but will it make a difference if Brunell can't sling worth a damn?

I think they need to bite the bullet this year and put Jason Campbell in. Brunell is done. He's not going to lead them anywhere, so you might as well get Campbell ready to take over. I heard he got dinged last night. They could be in a world of hurt if he goes down. Brunell will get hurt at some point, and if Campbell were to go down they'd be down to Todd Collins.

I thought they would stink last year and they were pretty good. I should not doubt Joe Gibbs but they do not look poised to do anything this year either.

Don't know that Campbell will be able to run that offense right now. It'd be limited, and that's part of the problem they're saying is limiting the output - that they don't have "their packages" in.

I don't want that to be a reflection of the suggestions that Campbell is a little dim and needs a lot of coaching. I've heard it both ways, that he's bright and a student of the game, and alternately that he really has to study to understand.

You are right about the flak. It's a non-stop bitchfest on the radio. Saunders had better be proven right because the cliches they've (coaching staff) been using about flipping switches and not showing anything are gonna blow up in their faces if the team loses and the O looks like shit.

Campbell played in four different offensive systems in five years at Auburn, so I doubt he's having much problem adjusting to a new one. In any case, I'd stick with Brunell for now just because you don't put a first-time QB in on a team with playoff aspirations (stupid Chargers), but I think Campbell is much better suited to Saunders' offense over the long-term.

Bet the Steelers, Bengals and Giants disagree with you.

It works occasionally, sure, but in general it's not a good idea.

and Campbell has been a turd this preseason, against lesser opposition than Brunell.

Jake was basically a "first time" QB when we plugged him in, in 2003.

I think it is usually foolish to start a rookie QB when you already have a good team but sometimes it works. It is probably safer when a guy has been on the bench for a season or two. I think Carson Palmer benefitted from having time to learn. Rivers might be the same way. I think Wienkie was set back a lot from being thrown in too quickly.
