We hear the free-agent signings of former Ravens DT Maake Kemoeatu and former Rams DT Damione Lewis by the Panthers is a clear indication of their concern about DT Kris Jenkins’ injury history. While the Panthers are hopeful Jenkins will be healthy by the start of the season, we hear they aren’t confident he can stay that way. So the Panthers approached the tackle position this offseason, we’re told, as if they needed two starters, adding Kemoeatu and Lewis after cutting 34-year-old DT Brentson Buckner.

Probably just pulled out of some website's ass. Given that Kemoeatu is useless on passing downs and Lewis is useless on running downs, it seems more likely that they're intended to fill one DT slot, not two.

Actually if read closely they are not saying anything special. Jenkins has been injured for two straight years. The Panthers would be remiss if they did not assume the trend would continue. I am sure they hope he will not be injured. They simply can not assume it will not happen again. The plan is to probably limit the number of plays for Jenkins and have more of a rotation in hopes they reduce some risk of injury.

I think the same sort of contingency should be in the cards for Foster.

I don't think they could be anything other than concerned. You don't miss two years straight and not have contingency ready (for once). However, I gotta believe they made the moves to simply get better talent there and to specialize a little bit. Jenkins or not. I'm glad they made the moves they did, but they shouldn't revolve around whether Jenkins is ready or not considering that's still unknown.

You guys gotta cut my man Jenks some slack...the first injury was a nagging shoulder that needed some scoping. That was done and healed up nicely. In the first game of last season, he got tangled in a fracus on the goal line against New Orleans and a knee ligament popped. That happened at the beginning of last season. That was seven months ago...enough time to be 90% or so healed from that injury. Barring anything stupid, he should recover nicely in time for camp and will definitely be ready for the season. Dude's a beast...injuries were unrelated. One was lingering, one was a surprise...both should be fine.:ylsuper:

Wilco......good taste. True enough..the injuries were unrelated. However, it is trend that can not be ignored. Thus, I think the Panthers acted accordingly and will hope for the best i.e. that the trend ends. They have simply bought some insurance in case their hopes go unfulfilled.

BTW, other than Ellison they really did not do this last year and I think it came back to bite them.
