Or vegetables from your garden, or things (clothes etc) that you no longer require. Could that be considered tithing?

Tithing never referred to 'leftovers', rather the opposite -- the first/best 10% off the top. Be it crops, cattle, or cash, it's a demonstration that a person has placed God first in his life.

Required for what? Salvation? Then you are correct. But tithing is a form of not only obedience, but worship as well. If a true Christian refuses to tithe, I think it's reasonable at least to ask why.

I don't know about the crops, but the cattle part says:

27:32 And all the tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman's staff, shall be holy to the LORD.
27:33 A man shall not inquire whether it is good or bad, neither shall he exchange it; and if he exchanges it, then both it and that for which it is exchanged shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed."

Which means every tenth animal, good or bad.

As far as cash goes, God would rather have the goods, rather than cash. Cash costs you an extra 20%.

27:31 If a man wishes to redeem any of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it.

These days most of us aren't farmers or herdsmen. We certainly don't produce/grow/breed money. I produce a service, which I exchange for money. I work 40 hours a week, so if I donate 4 hours a week to some sort of community service, that should take care of my tithe.

    Wow

Good thing God loves you enough to give you his BEST all the time instead of whatever happens to be laying around.......and I think He would also like to have your heart instead of your cash/time, but since it sounds like that is all you are willing to give up........

Best? While I admit that I may have it better than most, take a quick look around this earth and look at all the starvation, murder, rape etc.
