Lucas and Gamble are the best CB tandem in the league, partially because of our pass rush. That being said,I would blame the breakdowns in coverage during the Seattle game on the lack of pressure from our front four and our inability to stop the run.McRee got beat on the first TD of the game, but I didn't think those two were to be singled out.

2005 McCree was better than 2004 Branch.......

Is RMJ under contract next seaon? I thought he was a free agent and likely to go somewhere he can start. If we really need extra coverage ability more than the run support we can just play with Minter and three corners. It is not like having McCree means we can not adjust our defense to match up with the offense we are playing.

Using Collin logic then the Bears defense sucked in their last game and let one guy rack up over 200 yards passing on them. They need to blow up that defense and start over.

Yep, we did upgrade over 04. Whether it's enough or not? Hard to say. We were 1st overall in FO's rankings, which supposedly skews for quality of opponent.

    Manning is RFA.

If we had a chance to get a stud free safety then I might go for it as long as did not break the bank. I would not mind us drafting a free safety to compete for the job. I just do not want to let McCree walk and roll the dice again on some low level free agent we pick up. We can do a lot worse than McCree, IMHO.

Considering McCree didn't play free safety, we could retain either him or Minter and obtain a real FS.

Actually he wasn't. 2004 Branch was better than 2004 (or 2005) Minter, and he'd be better than 2005 McCree, but that's a separate issue altogether.
Thelt, you are easily one of the dumbest people ever to post on TBR, and I think you would come to an understanding of that given how often various people have said that or similar things to you. Because of your abject stupidity and your complete lack of understanding when it comes to football (or anything else for that matter), it's no surprise that you wouldn't get the point. If McCree and Minter just had one bad game, that wouldn't be a big deal. Steve Smith had a bad game against Dallas. The problem is that McCree and Minter have collective weaknesses that are present in every game because they are not derived from a lack of effort or feeling bad one day or whatever, but rather a lack of ability. Minter and McCree are both hit-first strong safeties, and having two players like that handling our deep zone responsibilities puts more pressure on the CBs and exposes more areas in our coverage.

And for the record, I'm not insulting you because you disagree with me. I'm insulting you because you are the animated remains of an aborted fetus that just doesn't know when to quit.

Interesting. Could you elaborate a bit more?
