Goings wasn't exactly a draft find. He got an invite. He's been versatile and willing and tough. Every team needs a Nick Goings.

    >>Why the defense was never better than it was, was puzzling.

Talent. What talent was here was young, inexperienced, and was often backing up aging, slowing, costly players. Didn't take long for Rucker to start tearing it up once he got on the field consistently.

We spent huge and it got us no better than 8-8. That's what did George in. Chuck Smith, Sean Gilbert, Doug Evans. And only one of those were his mistakes.

Not that they were expensive, but Damn...looking back the team made horrible decisions and did things totally against the way I have come to understand how to run a team the last 4 years of following the team closely.

    :satana: lmao

IMO, 2000 was almost more depressing than '01. Getting swept by the shitty Falcons, losing to Dallas, the shameful loss at Oakland. Despite losing Bline, the '01 offseason still had promise, and many of the players that he drafted/signed helped us on our Super Bowl run.

But I can't forgive the 2000 season, and it's miserable failures in free agency.

I believe the Patriots are full of nick goings. We could use a few more ourselves.

If I remember right, we lost a bunch of those games by 3 pts. or less, and a bunch of them were lost on the last possesion of the game. I think they were just poorly coached. Fox said when he came in that this was a better team than the 1-15 record indicated.

Unfairly or not, hardly anyone believes he earned those rings. Most people think he just inherited a great team and rode it to success (a la Barry Switzer). Personally I didn't think he was ever a good head coach, and thus I was pretty disappointed when Richardson hired him.

It's certainly colored how you feel about him, sure.

But no, he's damn sure earned them. And the Switzer parallels are obscene.

*shrug* It does seem to be the majority opinion about Seifert, and certainly not just among Panthers fans. I'm not saying it's deserved, but that's how people feel based on the situation he entered in San Francisco and how miserably he failed here.

When he left SF Seifert had the best winning percentage in NFL history. The Panthers didn't help that.
