I'm sure it's buried on here somewhere, but how about some love for our kickers?

Kasay absolutely boomed those two FGs. I only wish he kicked that well on the damn video game. Baker has gone from being a dependable replacement to Sourpuss to a definite upgrade.

(Its now safe to return to your regularly scheduled Ken Lucas lovefest).

Baker is a very pleasant surprise. I'll still allow for a few brain farts, but so far it doesn't look like we'll be missing Sauerbrun at all. :)

And yeah, every time I think Kasay's about done, he boots through a couple of 50+ yarders. :saywhat:

Knew Baker had leg. He showed it all preseason, and I suggested his one punt last week was a fluke.

Meanwhile, the rest of our ST played better. Gamble obviously had a great return, but so did Smith on a few (despite having one called back), and Smart didn't suck this week.

Baker is an upgrade IMO, not just personality, but he's a team guy

plus he had just that one touchback that we almost downed...if I was guessing, I'd say he had 3 punts inside the 20, I'd also guess Sbrun never saw many inside the 20 in one game

Kasay's leg strength also is improved...that's what's great about some veterens, they work to improve...he has on both FG's & kick-offs

Seemed like Kasay lost a little distance on kickoffs as the game went on, but I'll take it. Did he put even one in the EZ the last two years? :229031_ha

I have to agree with Kasay. I really thought he'd struggle this year. For some reason I had made my mind up that he didnt have the leg strength he once had, maybe it was one of the preseason game that I saw that I thought he struggled in. At any rate, he has been solid.

Baker....yea, I havent warmed up to him just yet, but I did like the inside the 20's. I think Brun would have just kicked it out of the back of the zone because he could.

Baker had a great day, but those of us singing his praises will be singing the opposite tune when his inconsistency flares up. Don't get me wrong, he's great for this team...quality person, team guy. I hope he's found a way around his ocasional lapses, but he has a history of flubbing a punt every now and then and when he's done it early in games he struggles...just saying, be prepared for a him to be somewhat up and down.
He's probably the most popular punter in Iowa Hawkeyes history behind Reggie Roby...that's good company!

Well, I say we may clean him up from his inconsistancies. Scottie O happened to clean up a few punters and kickers while he was here and from what I've read, Crossman is just a jr. version of Scottie. With a little work, I betcha we'll have a fine punter when it's all said and done.
