...removed the lottery protection on their draft pick that was traded to Charlotte?

They felt pretty sure it wouldn't be a lottery pick because they were playing so well... etc, etc.

Looks like that could possibly come back to bite them in the ass.

Bobcats having 2 lottery picks would be great. I'll take one Andrew Bogut and one Chris Paul please!

Well I definately missed that. How long ago was it when they did do such a thing and why would they? Did we give them some kind of compensation? If Jim Paxon gave that protection up on the basis of plain motivatioal reasons will make him more of a goober GM than I thought. He really really should get fired then.

If I remember correctly, we delt Cleveland one of our extra picks last year, a late 1st or early second. The trade was for Cleveland's non-protected 1st rounder this year :)

Cats helped their cause by losing to Philly while Cleveland got rolled again. Cavs are in 7th place, with a hot Philly, New Jersey, and even Orlando still in the mix. It would be sweet to have two lottery picks!

actually originally the pick was protected, but Cleveland had to remove the protection because they made another trade that would bring them someone else's 1st rounder (I think that's what they got, but I know it was due to a trade.) They figured at that point it wouldn't matter anyways because they expected to make the playoffs, but due to some HORRIBLE play as of late it could turn in to two lottery picks, and if that's true there's even a chance, all be it slim, that Charlotte could end up with BOTH the 1st and 2nd overall pick.

    What I'm wondering is this:

Say the Cats had the same restrictions that the Hornets had and weren't eligible for a "lottery" pick in year two. If we had made the same trade, and Cleveland's pick was lottery, would we be eligible?

yes, because its someone else's pick. Had it been like the Hornets, one of the picks would have been locked in, but the other would be lottery eligible
