He sounds like an intelligent dude. He certainly plays like he has an attitude issue. Maybe Suh lite...
I mean I can't picture him intentionally stepping on someone's head.

Seems like there was something that went down at a restaurant...like a dine and dash or an argument of some kind. I don't recall if it was Nixon, though.
Iowa players don't get much media outside of football, unless it's a OWI or something more serious.

This has been making me crazy, and I've been trying to figure it out since the draft. Position-wise, he has no versatility--he's strictly a 3-Tech. He also had only one good year of production. So it's not like he's a guaranteed difference maker.

According to the terrible "reporters" at Walter Football, there were character concerns and the coaches didn't give scouts good feedback about him. They reported that he had poor off-field habits, but that's as far as that article went. I did some additional digging on some Iowa football forums, and discovered two things. First, he has a learning disability, and second, he was on a "list" for a while with an ambiguous status when he was in the transfer portal. He elected to stay at Iowa, but word in the one thread I found was that the problem holding him back was not academic. Then there were a bunch of deleted posts and the whole thread became about rape on campus and drunk women having sex. So that could be a hint, but I really don't know.

Bottom line though, if his coaches didn't give good feedback, then that's a major red flag. Of course, the source is Walter Football, so there's that.

This is the most comprehensive scouting report on him that I could find: https://www.turfshowtimes.com/2021/4/6/22368612/daviyon-nixon-draft-scouting-report

I also read that he has some weight and conditioning issues. You put everything together and I imagine he's just a big immature brat who has some really good athletic ability. Getting paid may make it worse, but a full time football career may make it better. The dorm room incident probably involved a young lady that he tried to take things a little too far with, but in the end it wasn't bad enough to make the papers. His habits off the field as far as conditioning and attitude in general are probably what caused the negative feedback from his coaches.

Rhule seems to have a whole lot of confidence in his culture.

You went the extra mile CJ. Thanks. I always enjoy learning more about the local players whether it be good or bad or just different.
For that matter even if it's something as mundane as stamp collecting.

Snow kicks his 3 technique out to DE when he uses his 3-3 packages, and Nixon certainly appears to have the versatility for that role. If nothing else, he looks like an upgrade over Kerr. It will also be interesting to see who wins the roster battle between Phil Hoskins and Brayvion Roy.

It's a strong position for Carolina.

As Nixon's bank account starts getting fatter then we'll see exactly how many more of these GDWs start falling from the sky.

Thanks Cyber. Great stuff! Love the investigative work. ..Even if that was a bad lead it’s fun to get any inside slant. It will be interesting to see if a “Kraken gets released” or not. Even if we only got one hot year out of him it would be a nice boost for where he was picked. Hardy was fucked up too, but fucked up between the whistles can make for some excellent beat downs. Can’t wait to see the Carolina front seven make Wilson shit his pants week one!
Agree with B&B about the “Kerr upgrade”. I feel like the entire draft and most of the FA pickups upgrade depth significantly at the very least.
Panthers 2021 are a more talented team all across the board. The only thing that bugs me really is the high salary cap hit for O-line depth upgrades. .. those FA linemen are not likely to be NFL starters here. Also, having to PRAY that Christensen develops into a starter (and quickly) remains concern number one.
