Wilks is gonna be the Rooney rule fall guy until he does land somewhere.

It's beyond me how some guy who's been a DC for one year, and not superb at that, especially considering the talent, that he seems to be highly sought after or some shit to replace decent, experienced guys.

Not that Wilks doesn't necessarily deserve a look, but still.

Wilks had one of the worst secondaries in the NFL, and Carolina still finished with a top 10 defense. He's an excellent DC and I think he'll be a quality head coach.

    Maybe so.

I do get the secondary deficiency. Stats say Car:

    7 in total yards

    18 pass yards

    3 in rush yards

11 in scoring D, which is the most important.

T for 16th with 18 teams in front for takaways.

The fact Car was -1 in give/take diff says a lot as well, mostly good for the D.

I wouldn't say he's necessarily "excellent" but I'd like him to stay and think he's good. I think he may blitz too much, especially considering the secondary. I'd like to see more pressure with 4. I'd like to see better coverage certainly. That's not all on him.

I wonder also why Rivera doesn't seem more involved in the D. I have no idea how much, though. So maybe he is, I dunno.

My point is he's only had one year as a DC. Although, I did not realize he carries an 'assistant head coach' title.
He was a head coach of Savannah Sate for one year in 1999.

His experience other than that is primarily defensive backs coach.

I, as you, have no idea as to whether he's actually gonna be a quality head coach. Maybe he will, maybe he won't.

Somebody may roll the dice. He'll no doubt he'll get a few extra looks for the sake of the Rooney rule, unfortunately, or fortunately for him if he impresses and gets something. He is experienced in a sense as he's 48 and been doing it for 20 years.

My previous comments about 'experience' wasn't relegated to retreaded HCs with bad records.

It's fair to say he needs a few more years as a coordinator. It's a big jump to make. Even McDermott made a couple embarrassing rookie mistakes.

I think McDermott did really well. Sure, he had a coupla moments, but overall, I was mildly impressed. And that's saying a lot.

He did a great job stabilizing things after an embarrassing midseason stretch. I thought they were heading for 6-10 after the Peterman debacle.

Dan Fouts is absolutely the worst color analyst ever, even in waterboy.

The guy sounds like an idiot munchkin who talks just to talk.
