    In a shocking move, the team rescinded the non-exclusive franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman on Wednesday.

    Norman immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent.



    "After a number of conversations with Josh's agent we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable," general manager Dave Gettleman said in a statement. "We have decided to rescind the Franchise Tag freeing Josh to immediately become a UFA. We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well."

    It's a stunning turn of events after Gettleman insisted all offseason he didn't believe in drafting and developing players "for other teams." The Panthers will now walk away from the 28-year-old corner.

    Because Gettleman is a brutally cheap asshole.

    Unless you take other side of the argument, which is that Norman is asking for a ridiculous amount of money for a relatively short sample size of elite play, in a scheme that once made Melvin White look like a legitimate NFL player.

    I have heard they offered him 11million per year average. That seems like a fair offer based on other CB deals and Norman's career so far. I'm not even mad. I doubt he will get much more than that on the open market.

    I don't like this, but if a guy isn't going to sign his tender what the hell can you do? You don't want a hold out that lasts into the season, and his age is a complicating factor when it comes to a long term deal. Unless you greatly frontload it, you'll be overpaying him at some point since corners peak in their late 20's. It's a star-crossed situation.
