Smith interviewed for the Dolphins job which eventually went to Adam Gase and is rumored to be a candidate in Tampa Bay as well. With plenty of upside hires -- including current OC Ben McAdoo -- available, bringing in an uninspiring retread like Smith would show a disturbing lack of vision

 

The last two years were so bad that you completely forget the first five. The Falcons have had eight double digit win seasons in their fifty year history. Three of those came under Mike Smith. The Falcons have produced back to back winning seasons only four times, with all four coming under Mike Smith. His career winning percentage of .589 ranks 41st of all-time and tenth best among recently active head coaches. I guess the lesson to be learned from this is that nothing else matters after Mike Tolbert has stretched your loved ones.
