Draft Grades

Maybe but it's still way too early

 

The Seahawks haven't drafted great. They get credit for Wilson in the 3rd, but that also means they passed on him twice. Irvin is looking like a bust. Carpenter looks like a bust. They've done pretty well in the middle rounds, obviously.

 

I mean, Ealy makes sense in a lot of ways. He'll probably be a solid player for us...can't see him starting this season, but I can see him being utilized in passing down situations, 3rd down nickels inside and such, and creating some mismatches...

but I have to give this draft a C-.

A RB? And the fucking thing Gettleman pushes is so that he can pick up blitzes for the pre season QBs? Oh wow...

But this thing for me, gets graded low because we whiffed over and over again on OTs. Ealy might've been good value, but to disregard need in a position as important, and critical to our franchise QB's success as an OT....when everyone knows that Bell is awful, to me, seems counter-productive.

Now that the sheen has worn off Gettleman a bit, I think we're beginning to see that this guy might not be very good at his job. It's too early to tell, but I can't imagine San Fransisco, Seattle, Green Bay ignoring that position, and leaving their franchise player to the wolves.

I cannot believe - I mean, what fucking franchise other than us touts their QB as their franchise guy, and refuses to build a protective wall around him?

Un fucking believable.

Moses is better than Bell. Hell, Richardson who went undrafted is better than Bell, and sure punked Ealy when they faced each other....

 

In fairness, Green Bay really neglects offensive line as well. Sooner or later Cam is going to get hurt like Rodgers did. Who did you mean when you said "Richardson"?

28) Kelvin Benjamin
Can't really add anything to what's been said. I don't hate the pick but don't love it. I can see him being a weapon with the strengths Cam has. But liked Lee, Adams and Matthews better.

Grade: B
Who I would have taken: Davante Adams, WR, Fresno St

60) Kony Ealy
Love the value, and the flexibility this gives us to shed a HUGE contract. I'd have been too big of pussy to do this and would have filled need at OT.

Grade: A-
Who I would have taken: Morgan Moses, OT, UVA

92) Trai Turner
Really like this pick given our style of play and hole at RG. Need and Value. I would have probably gone with a DB here as there was some good value.

Who I would have taken: Jaylen Watkins, CB/S, Florida

128) Tre Boston
Ish. Over-drafted him. Seems like his has some redeeming qualities if he develops. Instead I go with a solid G here with OT experience.

Grade: D
Who I would have taken: Dakota Dozier, OG, Furman

148) Bene Benwikere
I sorta like this guy. Like Benjamin, I think his speed betrays him at times but unlike Benjamin he does have some explosiveness. I go WR here again with a guy I really liked.

Grade: B
Who I would have taken: Robert Herron, WR, Wyoming (and I wouldn't have traded up)

204) Tyler Gaffney
So I'm in the minority but no problem here. A powerful RB that can block. That's a nice use of a 6th round pick, especially if Stew or DeAngelo is gone after this year. I go with another pass rusher here who went undrafted but is probably better than Frank Alexander.

Who I would have taken: Jackson Jeffcoat, DE, Texas

With the pick back in the 7th that I wouldn't have traded I pick up a S that went undrafted but has special teams potential at least.

224) Who I would have taken: Craig Loston, S, LSU

 

Cutting Williams or Stewart won't save any money until 2016 unless you designate them June 1st cuts and push part of that dead money into 2016. Cutting Charles Johnson after this season would save $11 million.

 

I had forgotten Jeffcoat went undrafted until I searched for ammunition to destroy Big Red with. I'm with you, I think I would have taken him at 204 instead of McCullers.

I agree with you on most of these grades...I do like the Gaffney pick. Insurance against Stewart who I imagine will be released as soon as the best time comes.

I'll defer to Gettleman and the scouts on the OTs. They didn't like them.

As to Gettleman saying he would not draft for need...it is funny how that is pretty much exactly what he did especially if you look at the plan for getting ready to resign Cam and Luke in the next few years. Initially you could say Elay isn't but if Hardy is a 1 yr rental he is a BIG need.

I hope Boston does something and in some fairness he did make some plays at Carolina in a bad secondary but seems like better players were there.
