Would have preferred Cyrus as well but oh well. Everyone still on the board at 28 has concerns and issues. Hope like hell he turns into a red zone touchdown machine.

I just read this. I am drinking the kool-aid. Please please please let this be accurate.

 

He describes the gif against Florida as "press" coverage when the Gator never even attempts to initiate contact and jam Benjamin. NFL defenders are going to get into Kelvin's chest and jar him at the line, particularly because he has a slow first step and they won't be scared about him eluding the jam. Mentioning T.O. was also pretty stupid given that it's a completely inappropriate and therefore useless comparison.

This says nothing about my evaluation of Benjamin, but my evaluation of Stephen White is that he's less qualified to judge players than most of the posters on TBR. He misunderstands football concepts, employs a lot of logical fallacies, and appears to endorse players based on how he feels about them rather than rational analysis.

 

Was listening to radio where a little while ago Greg Cosell was asked about Benjamin and said on film it could be said that he was smoother than Mike Evans. Said with Newton not being a real accurate passer, he was a good fit. Paraphrasing but that's pretty much the message in his words.

Cosell is pretty sharp so I feel a little better.

 

Benjamin appears to me to be more of resembling a receiving TE, quality wise/ball control and size, with a bit more athletic ability and possibly a little bit quicker/faster with more RAC, but certainly not a burner as a wide out and certainly not as good of a blocker as a TE...kinda reminds me of a little larger Andre Johnson with less ability/speed/savy....not saying he will be that good or anything, just reminds me more of him than some who say Benjamin remind them of Megatron (which is dumb to me).

could be wrong, but that's my impression of him watching him play on film and live a few games anyway....

could help newton, given his inaccurate tendancies.....def could help in goal line situations especially when paired along with Olsen....we do need help in that area...

could do OK against the jam by overpowering the DB if he plays mean and jams back correctly....could be a very good blocker with work and effort, by WR standards, anyway.

this reminds me a lot of the Cam Newton pick.

Both had intriguing physical tools but questions on whether those tools would translate to the NFL....Both had productive but brief college careers that culminated in a National Championship.....Both viewed as boom-or-bust type of prospect.

I guess my final feeling on this is that he wasn't my favorite. I liked guys like Matthews and Davante Adams more. But I'm intrigued by his size and physicality. Worried about his lack of quickness. Like his ability to challenge the "big" corners that are now the rage....hey, we have to beat Seattle to make noise and I like Benjamin vs Sherman more than Marqise Lee vs Sherman. Like his ability to force the D to have to assign a CB and S in the re-zone to bracket him and take a defender away from the LOS. Like his ability to block on the edge in our run game.

 

Plaxico Burress - just hope the Panthers get the good numbers not the shoot yourself in the leg..

 

That's a pretty good way to look at him, as TE 'tweener who splits out. He has better ball skills than Ebron while having less athleticism.
