I didn't want to start a new thread just to say this, but despite any of the failings of this board - I absolutely can't stand reading posts from people on other sites who can barely construct a sentence in any form that approaches being comprehensible. I mean, damn, there are some illiterate Fks out there.

It is so nice to read posts from people who not only understand football (and much better than I do), but can also express themselves intelligently...even when going ballistic...

Pretty Obvious Keys to the Game (so why did you post them?):

#1) Contain Darren Sproles - He's caught an absurd 82% of his targets and New England is the only game where he had more than two incompletions. San Francisco and Seattle did a good job keeping him contained and limiting the yards after the catch since it's so damn hard for any linebacker or safety to prevent the completion. He will sometimes fumble the ball, so that's something to watch when its in his hands.

#2) Jam Jimmy Graham - I realize we aren't a press scheme, nor should we be with this personnel, but it would really help to at least hit Graham instead of giving him a free release. I'd actually like the DEs to throw a shoulder into him when he's lined up next to the tackle since disrupting the timing is more important than getting immediate pressure. When split out wide, the defender needs to use inside technique. If you don't then Brees will just hit him all day on those slants. He has the height and athleticism to catch passes over defenders, but that's obviously a more difficult task than trying to come through him to break up the pass.

#3) Run The Ball Intelligently - Don't just pound it up the middle and expect to succeed. This offensive line isn't strong enough and the Saints did a pretty good job against Lynch. I'd like to see some draws since New Orleans loves to rush the passer, then Cam really has to be a factor both on designed runs and taking opportunities to scramble on pass plays. This is a good spot for the read option and inverted veer, anything that will test the Saints' run defense to the outside and particularly off tackle.

While we going with plays on words, hopefully we expose their offense as smoke and mirrors.

I'm ok with limiting the read option. Honestly they run a completely different defense now, but what really worked for us last year were the traps, screens and counters and such. The read option is fine if it works - but this year it's not necessarily been Cam hitting the big gains on those, other than just creating big runs on broken plays or when no one's open.

Gonna have to feed Tolbert. You're damn skippy.

No doubt. And I like my chances with Davis and Mitchell out there. We play the safety shallow a lot, so that could work in our favor as much as it could hurt us if he gets behind. Obviously they're going to run lots of stretch plays to soften us up there and get him open.

We don't press well enough. And yeah, the DEs are going to have to play more contain and chip than just blindly rush - which leads me to:

We're going to have to be dreadfully careful with the rush and react stuff we do on DL. To me, this game comes down to how good Lotulelei and Edwards can get push in the interior to back Brees up into the teeth of our perimeter rush. We're going to have to play the lanes as much as we just put our heads down and rush. That's my opinion, anyway.

Fuckin' A right. I watched the Tampa game and was pretty surprised to see how badly we telegraphed the run. We do a pretty good job of changing formations and running the same plays with them, but overall, we run a few powers, leads and sweeps, and it's just not good enough.

I've said it for weeks now. I want to run far more delays and draws with our packs out of pass sets. I think it gives the runners a chance to see where the lanes are going to be and for the blitzers to get upfield more, since the strength isn't good enough to really carve out a lane where it's designed to be. Plus I think this gives Cam more protection since the DL will have to watch their reads as well as the backers more. Gives our receviers and TEs a better chance to beat zone too, if the backer has to sit on his zone even a second more. Helps our OL, helps everything. Sure, we'll have some tackles for loss....

    ...we have a ton already.
