This is a really, really bad sign with respect to Cam's growth (the article is actually about David Gettis):

On one play he beats cornerback Josh Thomas off the line and sprints free down the left side. He’s open not by feet but by yards, several of them.

Running back DeAngelo Williams sees him and calls his name. Quarterback Cam Newton does not see him. Newton throws an incomplete pass down the right side.

SPARTANBURG: Panthers training camp’s biggest question: ‘Didn’t you used to be David Gettis?’ | Carolina Panthers | Rock Hill Herald Online

The RB should never be able to read the defense better than the starting QB. And if he's that open (like Armanti was on the interception to Olsen), how does he miss that read??

Tunnel vision. Cam, like most quarterbacks, locks onto a particular receiver that he'd like to target on that play instead of surveying the field. When I'm evaluating college QBs I make particular note of their head movement. You can tell when a guy is scanning the full field versus focusing intently in one particular area. In addition to helping you notice open receivers, scanning also keeps the defense honest instead of having them flow to where you're looking.

The frequency in which Cam misses open receivers is actually excruciating.

Chud designed something that was simple for Cam and helped break him into the league. Unfortunately I think Cam might have gotten too comfortable with it. Based on last week, that isn't changing at all with Shula.

And yet we weren't. The thread was going fine until you showed up, correct? This is what you do, CC. You make this place worse by looking to create arguments. Yes, I'm guilty of participating in them, but shockingly I don't look to initiate things anymore. These days I generally only act like my reputation when someone provokes me into it.

Because you did. People can look at my response in post 28 that you referenced. Even there I wasn't insulting or aggressive at all. You tried to pick a fight in post 26, and when you didn't get enough of a reaction from me you tried even harder in post 29. Then you got what you wanted.

What did Newton do to be positive about? On Steve's third down catch Cam was late on the throw, forcing Steve to stop in the zone and almost giving his man time to catch up and make a play. He also threw it off his back foot, just as he did on the wide open LaFell TD. Newton was constantly staring down receivers and showing bad technique. He didn't look good.

No, you lied because you wanted to argue with me. Everyone who saw it knows that what you said about Cam stopping "immediately" was a lie. Malapoo said that Cam did not stop immediately, but instead "made a face, turned and commented to the other player & camerman." You're not just arguing against me, you're arguing against everyone. Adams stopped and walked away. Cam came back to the camera, made a gesture in TD's direction and made some comments about him. That by definition is not stopping "immediately."

It makes me look correct, as that's what clearly happened. You initially said "just pulled up as he was clearly never gonna catch Bostic," but anyone who watches the video you posted can see that's absolutely not true. He didn't even start jogging after Bostic until several seconds had passed, so it's obviously false to claim that he ran after him immediately and then pulled up once it was clear he wouldn't catch him. You then said "Bostic is galloping down the sideline at the 30 while Cam is on the far hash," but that's obviously later after the interception while Cam is jogging in pursuit. Again, I wasn't rude at all in correcting your false statement. You're the one responsible for creating yet another pointless argument.

As I said before, if you want to make TBR a better place then stop picking fights with me. You do it over and over again, which suggests that it's your main reason for coming here.

Jesus Christ. Just stop it. Cam absolutely did not "(stop) hamming it up and (go) back to watching the game." Malapoo confirmed that Cam did not just stop immediately. He didn't. The only reason I can think of for you persisting in this nonsense is that it gives you what you want, an argument with me. But thanks for pointing out that TD never spoke to Adams and yet Adams got the fuck out of Dodge as soon as he came over. He had better sense than Cam did.

[IMG] I can never tell how much of your posts are trolling and how much are you being so incredibly delusional that you actually believe the things you post even though absolutely everyone disagrees with you. Regardless, the reality is that you repeatedly go out of your way to start shit with me. I'm asking you not to. This thread was going along quite well until you showed up.

I think the real question here is "can Cam Newton be an 'entertainer and an icon' and still be a team leader?"

Cam is the antithesis of leader. Instead of trying to apologize for it or paint him as something he's not, I think we should just accept it. Cam is the last guy you would want to be in a foxhole with. However this is football, not war. Mercenaries will do just fine.

Hot damn, man. This is incredible that we're still nitpicking on everything this fucker does.

Let's let the season play out, and see what happens. Frankly, TD needs to worry about his fucking defense, and not what Cam's doing in preseason in the fourth quarter.

I love the irony of TD getting blasted by Panther fans for showing actual leadership.

Yeah I don't give a shit about what he does off the field (including on the sidelines). Missing wide open receivers, however, pisses me off.
