You seem to have no conception of what "mediocre" means. I would suggest buying a dictionary since you keep acting like it's synonymous with terrible. For instance, Boller only wishes he had ever been mediocre.

    LOL, Stop stealing my lines.

You do realize how many multiple pro bowlers and SB winning QB's are on that list you call mediocre.

    You have that backwards.

Jake Delhomme made a Pro Bowl and nearly won a Super Bowl. Some of the names on that list were legitimately great, but most weren't.

We all know Jake went to pants after the Tommy John. Previous to that he was not mediocre.

    Per Merriam-Webster

Definition of Mediocre: Of moderate or low quality, value, ability or performance: ordinary, so-so

Taking us to 2 NFCCG's and 1 SB was not mediocre. Hell, it could have been 2 SB appearances if we weren't so beat up facing Seattle. Does anyone remember Jamal Robertson, our leading rusher that day?. Even in 2004 when we lost Davis, Foster and Smitty he had his best statistical season throwing for almost 3900 yards and 29 TDs to 15 Ints. And Prior to his elbow injury in 2007 he had a 111.8 QB rating throwing 8 TD's to 1 pick the first 3 games. Even in 2006 we had a winning record under him prior to Weinke having to step in.

2008 we started relying on our running game and Jakes TD's to INT ratio was starting to slip, culminating in the Zona debacle. By 2009, he was done.

Exactly which QB's are we calling mediocre? I mean, a guy like Jeff Garcia had some dodgy late years but in SF he was pretty productive.

This thread is well on the path to arguing QB/WR dependency.

    Of course he was.

"low quality" in that definition isn't actually correct, but reflects popular misuse. Look at dictionary.com and you'll notice that it doesn't include that use of the word. Mediocre does mean "moderate quality" or ordinary or average or anything along those lines, as it derives from "mediocris" which means something like middle peak in Latin.

Yeah, he was. Jake was never even close to an elite quarterback or even a top 10 one. He was a pretty average guy even in his best years who would make big plays and bad ones in roughly equal measure.

Jake ranked 12th in QB rating that season and his 27 combined interceptions + fumbles were worse than any quarterbacks in the league except Vinny Testaverde and Trent Green. Look, it's fine that you didn't know what "mediocre" meant, but at this point you're arguing just to be argumentative.

It's also worth noting that Jake's last two playoff performances likely cost us trips to Super Bowls. Almost certainly the Arizona game. And the Seattle game was well before Tommy John.

I sometimes wonder how awesome we might have been in the 2000's if we had a better QB and better offensive coordinators. We had the talent to dominate the NFC for most of those years, when it was still a very bad conference.
