Let's hope Gmoneyless and JR agree that it's a case of a rising tide lifting all

I've been thinking rivera sucks since day 1. Nowhere near ready to 'give up' on cam, and dont understand what reason he's given to 'give up' on him.

    Gets viewers, though.

He probably needs to make the playoffs and advance to gain a long term extension. JR never liked him and Gettleman didn't hire him. I'd go as far as to say he's pretty much coaching his job on a week to week basis in 2013. Another 2-8 start, and GTFO.

Perry Fewell almost feels like an inevitability for 2014.

Because if there is one position group that Hurney struggled with above all else, it was pass catchers. Never getting a decent tight end in his whole career is one thing, scheme was part of it, but so many wasted draft picks on WR's that either were huge busts due to their draft seletion, or PR/KR's at best. I think I documented 17 draft selections of WR/TE over Hurney's tenure, and all we have to show for it at this point is Olsen, Pilares, Edwards, Lafell, Gettis, Adams, and one decent year out of Louis Murphy. That's it. After training camp, 3-4 will likely be left standing. The fact that we're still relying primarily on a 33 year old Steve Smith is a bit concerning, considering how long it takes to get a WR up to speed in these modern offenses.

Some people minimized Cordarelle Patterson's perceived lack of intelligence, but not me. Having followed Hakeem Nicks' transition to the league, it became obvious to me that WR's have a lot on their plate; they are given a number of options during the course of their routes. Fot instance, if x happens, do y; else if z happens, do w. If the WR fucks up his read, there goes a pick 6 the other way - i.e., see Dez Bryant at times last year.

I think the frustration is that there are other areas of the team that need much more help, but national writers like to hang on the "Steve Smith needs a compliment" line. Olsen and LaFell are prefect for that role. They also seem to forget that we had Moose (and a productive year of Keyshawn) for the bulk of Smith's career.

I agree that it's silly everyone thinks WR is a huge glaring need. While Smitty will eventually start to tail of Lafell is a nice #2. People shit on him but the guy has improved quite a bit. Gina and Hixson are nice vets but we drafted numerous slot WR's. Pilares has produced when he was healthy and Joe Adams never got a chance. Even Armanti has contributed. There is plenty of depth. Clearly the front office feels that way as well.
Gettlemans quote is telling. He said often times the answer to your question is already on your roster. He apparently likes the youth on the roster.

He's a good player, but I hope you're not suggesting that we should have picked him instead of Star, because that would have been dumber than anything Hurney ever did here.

not suggesting that at all. just saying that some here didnt think the wonderlic score for Patterson was that big of a red flag, but I thought it was. The passing game is nothing like it used to be, modern WR's need to be able to quickly process lots of info if he & the QB are to be on the same page. Some WR's can come in and start and make an impact right away, but they are the exception, not the rule. Often its hard to distinguish when a WR has a big role and when he has a small role that results in an unusually high number of yards and catches. I know I can have difficulty distinguishing that.
