    What a shitty column.

He simultaneously says the team can nowhere with Cam but then says "Carolina needs an offensive guru who demands perfection and accountability from Newton. I would've handed the keys over to Mike McCoy, Jay Gruden or Ken Whisenhunt." as if he can be fixed. Thankfully he named one guy with a good QB track record in Gruden- I've seen Mike McCoy's work upclose and Whisenhunt lucked into Warner and Roethlisberger his offenses in Arizona were underachieving at best.

We all know Rivera is a lame duck but Schein thinks that because Gettleman didn't (or couldn't) fire him right away the franchise is doomed.

Haha, damn. Harsh. Some of it is warranted for sure. I think many of us would have let Rivera go. He bumbled his way through too many games. At the same time Rivera admitted that he has had some growing pains. So as players can develop hopefully so can coaches because we are stuck with him for another year at least. Maybe keeping him pays off down the road but he clearly seemed over his head on several occasions and it would have perfectly justifiable to can him.
Newton has his flaws as well and we can get into huge discussions about them. He's younger than both Wilson and Luck. He had a solid end to the season but still makes stupid throws. He definitely warrants criticism on his play but here is to hoping he continues to improve.

There is some truth to this but it seems coaches do better when they switch to their second team- look at Pete Carroll

keeping him one more year just gives him more chances to john bunting himself into a contract extension.

let's just face it, the only reason he nailed the interview for this job was because he had had so much practice.

Why do people keep insisting that the Panthers lack depth at wide receiver? That's one of the things that I hate most about the sports media. One person says something and the rest of their peers simply repeat it over and over again, using the echo chamber as justification for their opinion. As noted before, Ginn had always been a #3 WR prior to last season and yet he figures to be the #4 here. The Panthers definitely have huge questions about the future at WR, but for 2013 it's as deep and experienced a group as you'll find.

Unfortunately there's a lot else in the column that I can't disagree with. I do think the Panthers have the least talented roster in the division, and I do think they have the most holes in the division. I also think Rivera might not be cut out to be a head coach, while we're all familiar with Cam's attitude issues. That said, I strenuously disagree with the notion that Carolina could be considered "one of the four worst teams in the NFC." That's simply nonsense. The Panthers should be decent in 2013, probably finishing from 7-9 to 9-7.

Yeah, put a pair of decent DT's on the roster last year, and avoid the early season struggles/attitude Cam had last year.....and that team goes 10-6.

I don't think we went backward in any area and will be better on OL (healthy Kalil and experienced Silatolu) and DL (draft). Still have some holes but who doesn't....

Tampa Bay and New Orleans improved more, though. Atlanta probably slipped some.

we can still beat anyone in the divison, just doubt we do it twice. we did dominate Atlanta for 119 minutes last year. I agree with Paul that we will be improved, even to the point that Rivera might get an extension, and I think that would be a mistake...
