With the fumbling rumors around Barner, I want to see a season under him before I`d do anything with DW.

 

If your gonna have dead money on the cap by either trading him or cutting him either now or later. what's the hard in at least looking for a trade.
Some of you mentioned it'll happen next year. Is the dead money less next year.

As of 2 weeks ago we had 5.7 million under cap to sign Rookies

 

My guess is that he's pressuring DW to do a a Gross-style restructure, but Williams really has no reason to comply since his contract is a lot more recent and thus would involve giving up a lot more money. DeAngelo does have to be smart about it, though, because he would get peanuts on the open market. So if he could cut out the fat of his inflated base salaries and cut down to whatever he already has in guaranteed money with basically minimum bases, that could work for both sides.

 

Come on man, this has been explained numerous times already. When you trade a guy, all of their remaining bonus money counts against that season's cap for the team that trades the player. So trading DeAngelo would mean an extra $6.4 million against the 2013 cap. It can't be done. You can cut him under the June 1st provision which allows you to split that cap hit between 2013 and 2014, but you cannot split the money when trading a player.

DeAngelo has more tread on his tires than other RBs his age due to not often being the primary back for the majority of his career. I wonder what his average carries is verses other backs. He was drafted the same year as Lynch and I'd bet Lynch is way past him

 

Yeah right at 300 more carries by Lynch. That's not a knock on Williams since Hurney drafted another back to split carries though. It's inevitable, he is gone in June and we will split the loses between the next 2 seasons. So based upon this b if we dump Beason in June as well we would get hit with 4 mil this year and next?

 

Just for what it's worth, I'd not say DW is on the down side.

He has split carries since he's been in the league, and he's by far our biggest playmaker on offense minus 89.

During that stretch last year when we were winning games, DW was a huge part of that. Someone will get a great back in the prime of his career.
