That's true, it would also help if people were cognizant of the fact that 89s replacement doesn't also have be another shrimp WR

Yea but with none of the wrs being good on this roster; I would think you would want a guy you can move around. Andre. j and Larry f. Seemed to be getting "smith'd" as well because they don't have other options.

Yes, by all means let's worry about replacing someone three or four years in the future as opposed to addressing positions that have absolutely no one worth a damn right now.

And Calvin Johnson does? The idea of elite receivers needing other receivers to help them is a myth. They need a competent quarterback and a decent pass blocking line.

I like Green Bays approach. Assemble a plethora of capable guys for your QB to throw to. Which is exactly why I'd get major wood if we got Hopkins in the 2nd.

Also, I really think Smitty only has 1, maybe 2 more productive years left.

The only way that matters is if Steve gets cut to create cap room. If he's here then he's starting, even if he's in obvious decline. That said, I didn't realize that LaFell is a free agent after this season. I think he should be locked up at a cheap rate long-term because he's a lot better than most people believe, but if they feel like they can't do so given Cam, Hardy, and so many other contract decisions then a replacement would make sense. That replacement could not be Tavon Austin, though. You couldn't possibly play him opposite Smitty.

You do. But I dont think this is the draft you have to take 1 at 14. Plenty of comparable talent available in round 2 if they see it as a need that needs addressing.

Were working all the top ones out and taking a good look see. Thats all you can ask for if WR is your worry. I'll trust Ricky Proehl on this one.

Would really like to see a lineman at 14. But if none we like fall maybe yeah, we take a WR, but i dont see it as a first choice. Its Murphy we have to replace right now and OL and DT are much more glaring needs.

You can play Austin in the slot and keep lafell and smith outside. They can find all kinda ways to get the guy the ball (like harvin) and he could boost our sorry ass return game. It would be worth the pick just to see a panther break a tackle on special teams for once (Edwards ran 69 yards once! Whoop whoop!). Deep draft on ol/dl/cb, I'm just saying if he's there I could see them picking Austin.

Smith is like 34 years old lol small wrs HAVE to have speed to be effective. Smith is a great wr but...Age will catch up quickly I'm guessing...I think it's coming sooner than later. Plus you need to give newton weapons so maybe he'll stay here and not bolt the 1st chance he gets.
