If not for the medical concern and I've also heard he really doesn't work all that hard in practice but Jarvis Jones is a pro bowl talent at OLB. He would be extremely hard to pass on. CB and DT are fairly deep in the draft so I would not be surprised if we went OLB in round 1.

Still, Tavon Austin has got to be thought about. He is a difference maker in the mold of Deshaun Jackson IMO. He will score TDs and can do it all. If they took him I would not be surprised what so ever.

THERE IS NO CHANCE OF BARKLEY GOING IN THE TOP 10. I think you're probably saying otherwise to make me cry, and it's working, but please stop. The buzz around Barkley is actually that he might end up the 4th or 5th quarterback chosen. He doesn't have one great attribute. It is a very real possibility that Barkley might not go before the late second or even third round. Remember Clausen.

They will. He knows the system and there is some talent there. Buffalo is the early pick most likely to gamble on Geno, but the reason he's the only one with a chance is that none of these other QBs are pro-ready and there are a lot of flawed developmental projects. Teams realize that there isn't much difference between the second quarterback taken and the fifth in this draft, so there's no incentive to reach.

    I'd be ok with that.

No. Austin isn't even really a wide receiver. He's an explosive athlete / running back trying to make it at wide receiver. Watch the highlights and you'll see a lot of short stuff that he breaks long and not much where he beats the defense deep to catch a pass. If you're going to do that, why not get Denard Robinson much later?

There's a big difference between Austin and Robinson. I've watched tape on both, and Austin's open field skills are truly breathtaking. It's a valid criticism that his hands/route running aren't there yet, but holy christ can that kid fly. I don't really want him at 14, but after a trade down? Sure.

I've seen this said a few times and I don't agree with it. Desean Jackson was a pretty good receiver already when he was drafted, the only knock on him was his size, which I guess is why people compare the two. To me, the closest comparison in recent years is Percy Harvin, especially when you watch how they were used at the college level. The differences are, I was scared of Harvin because he couldn't stay healthy in college, and has struggled with that in the pros also. He had a lot more muscle mass than Austin though.

If they sign Ginn (probably won't offer enough) then this is a moot point more than likely anyway. I can't disagree with the knocks on him completely. He drops balls as well. Still, he is a crazy athlete albeit small.

won't argue your point but with Hurney now gone i doubt we remain in the the mode of drafting either a LB or a RB in the first round every other year. he'd be great value at 14 but I just don't think you use a #1 on a guy you can't fit into the lineup immediately (course, i kinda argued the same thing last year when Connor's name was brought up). so, unless the plan is to dump Beason, i think we would trade down (and i think we could command a premium for the pick). but honestly, if he is cleared medically, i think he goes before we pick anyway ... and would help push either an OT or a DT down to us.

I agree that Austin is more explosive, but Robinson has pretty great open field skills as well. Also, your Harvin mention caused me to look up his numbers and holy cow his catch percentage as a pro is a lot higher than I would have expected (69%). I'm sure a lot of that comes from screens and such, but still.
