Cam is the one coming up small when it counts. It's not as if he's making beautiful, accurate passes in the fourth quarter and someone else is dropping them. Hell, aside from that field goal against Philadelphia I don't think he's even taken the lead during a fourth quarter and had the defense give the lead back. Maybe he won't end up being a career choke artist like Tony Romo, but he's certainly headed down that path right now.

And for the record, are we absolutely confident that Newton will have a better career than Colin Kaepernick, who also went in that draft? J.J. Watt, A.J. Green, Julio Jones, Von Miller, Aldon Smith, Patrick Peterson, and Tyron Smith did as well. Even Robert Quinn had 10.5 sacks for the Rams this past season, while Fairley and Dareus both had 5.5 (tied for fifth among NFL DTs). Ryan Kerrigan has 16 thus far in his two seasons. Cam Newton unquestionably isn't a top five player from the 2011 draft class. Whether you think he's in the next five or just outside the top ten is debatable.

Ok to be fair comparing non-qb players is kinda weak. Kaepernick? You honestly don't believe that the team that surrounds him coaching/defense/offensive weapons have NOTHING to do with his success? Or that newton wouldn't be close to unstoppable on the 49ers? Rg3? Kinda funny cousins had remarkable numbers with the same offense. I'm not saying newton is a top (elite) qb, but he's top 10 easy. You can't really discredit what he's accomplished vs what has been stacked against him early in his career.

 

Two years ago the biggest complaint was that Clausen kept checking down too often. He lacked the ability to throw the deep ball. Now it seems to be the complete opposite.

Cam is having his problems but this entire offense is under performing. He is just one piece of the puzzle.

 

yeah, plus there is all the hype and jersey sales you miss out on if you pass or trade down. It was always gonna be Cam. Hope he matured enough over the past year to have a rightous 2013.
