yeah, but in fairness to Hurney it took Evan 7 years to get focused.

Just sucks to see us with such major G issues and he's the best in the league roght now. Had he displayed the same effort here im sure Hurney would have paid him handsomely.

Yeah, I don't think it was an effort thing so much as him not fitting the system at the time. Player X will look a lot better on teams A, B, C, and D than E, F, G, and H.

For sure, that was all about Meeks and the Freeney comparisons, im sure of it.

But that was reactionary to losing Pep, the Texans let Mario walk after Brooks Reed filled in nicely when he was injured.

Plus they had changed to a 3-4, which Mario didn't fit nearly as well.

Yeah, i recall something along those lines. But as a coach you dont usually have those strong feelings about a player without reason. Usually its wasted talent. He had the bloodlines.

He also bounced around a bit and the Eagles was likely gonna be his final chance.

Yeah I think it was frustration at wasting his talent/not doing what he was told. Then there was some backtalk, if I recall. I was pissed about it back then.

edit: and yep he did take a long time to blossom. I can't blame the team for not carrying him 5 years until he got it.

Nor I, but it's frustrating that the few guys we didn't pay ended up being pretty good (also Wil Montgomery).

Maybe we'll be a little better at it.

It;s kind of tough to know what to expect at this point but at least we have a guy in charge with pro personnel background, vs a sportswriter cap guy.

Oh yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic about Gettleman.
